Flashback to AICLA 2023 in Bangkok where me and Roshiv Sheth first crossed paths with Mithran Marcus. Right off the bat, we knew we were onto something big. Marcus had the ideas, we had the expertise, and together, we smelled potential brewing – though, admittedly, our "plan" was as concrete as a cloud at that point! Fast forward to the end of the year, and Marcus is on the blower, itching for a seminar on marine topics but with a twist, nothing vanilla. He wanted spice! So, Roshiv and I got down to business, whiteboard markers in hand, and after what seemed like a marathon brainstorming session (and a small ocean of ink later), we struck gold. Our grand plan? A two-day training extravaganza: Day One for theory, and Day Two to turn that theory into hands-on, gritty reality. Sure, lots of seminars include site visits, but how many really tie the classroom directly to the field? Exactly. The plot thickened as we scoured for the perfect venue. Initially, we dreamed of corralling our attendees onto a vessel at anchorage – but, spoiler alert, that was a budgetary nightmare. Then, like a bolt from the blue, it hit me – Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM)! The crème de la crème of maritime training in Malaysia, where every shipboard machine you can think of is at your disposal for poking, prodding, and learning. A quick call to my old college senior Z. Zaini connected us with the legendary Holly Chee (my HR back in sailing days), who in turn introduced us to Ts Dr Captain Manivannan Subramaniam. And just like that, history was made. 🎥 Sneak Peek Alert! We've bottled up all the action in a snazzy video trailer of the training, full version dropping soon. Stay tuned to witness our theory-meets-practice magic in action! #ALAM #AGI #MII #marine_training #marine_claims

GITC Visits MBOT Putrajaya, 20 August - The Government-Industry TVET Coordination Body (GITC) recently visited the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) to explore potential collaborations in enhancing the skills and employability of TVET graduates. The primary objective of the visit was to delve deeper into MBOT's expertise in professional certification and accreditation. By understanding MBOT's processes and standards, GITC aims to transform graduating students from institutions such as Kolej Komuniti, ILP, IKBN, and Kolej Vokasional into highly skilled professionals capable of meeting the demands of the modern workforce. Specifically, the focus is on empowering students to excel in technical and technological fields such as construction, automated production, autonomous maintenance, and quality control. This initiative is designed to address the nation's reliance on low-skilled foreign workers and pave the way for a more self-sufficient and high-income economy. By collaborating with MBOT, GITC is taking a proactive step towards equipping Malaysia's future workforce with the necessary skills to be professionally certified and to drive innovation and competitiveness across various sectors. This strategic approach is a testament to GITC's commitment to fostering a thriving TVET ecosystem that benefits both individuals and the nation as a whole. The meeting was chaired by MBOT’s Registrar Dr. Md Fauzi Md Ismail, and joined by Deputy Registrar (Strategic) Dr. Suaathi A/P Kaliannan and Deputy Registrar (Operation) Ts. Abdul Hafiz Bin Mohamad Nor. Representing GITC were board member Ts. Sharifah Zaida Nurlisha Syed Ibrahim (advisor to MOGSC), CEO En. Jamil Bakri, and Head, Collaboration, En. On April 26, 2024, the Futuru Líder Ba ASEAN (FLBA) Malaysia Team convened with the Association of Malaysia Alumni in Timor-Leste (AMATL) at Hotel Timor to forge insights and prepare for their upcoming engagements in Malaysia. The meeting was rich with practical advice and culturais insights aimed at equipping the FLBA team for their Malaysian visit. A significant focus was on safety and security, AMATL also highlighted the necessity of adhering to local customs. The FLBA team discovered Malaysia's emphasis on pre-university schooling and university support for career preparation. Despite Malaysia's educational strengths, a knowledge gap about Timor-Leste was noted, sparking discussions on fostering awareness and cultural exchange. This interaction not only enhances the FLBA team's readiness but also fosters stronger ties between nations, illustrating the power of knowledge and cultural exchange within regional contexts. #FuturuLiderBaASEAN #FLBA_to_Malaysia #AMATL #ASEAN #CulturalExchange #TimorLeste #Malaysia
