The recycling symbols with mysterious numbers inside, on our plastic packaging. What do they mean?! Is it recyclable or not?! No one really knows. So Akepa would like to clear things up! There are 7 different types and this infographic explains their arcane meanings. Yes they are all recycling symbols ♻️ but that doesn’t mean that the things they’re on are easily recyclable (or can even be recycled at all). ⚠️ This is because these recycling symbols, called RICs (Resin Identification Codes), were created by the plastics industry - as a brilliant piece of marketing - to promote the idea of simple recycling. In reality, the majority of plastics are very tricky to recycle. (And just between us, the plastics industry knew this… for decades). So, as a rule of thumb, types 1 and 2 are generally recyclable but it really depends on your municipality’s facilities. You can likely find that information online, so have a peek because if you’re lobbing plastics into the recycling randomly, you could be #wishcycling. Find out more about that in our blog post… https://lnkd.in/dSFNg4-i #plastic #plasticrecycling #typesofplastic #RICs #plasticlabeling #wishcycling

♻️ Taking your plastic packaging and recycling it into new, sustainable rPET products Recycled PET (rPET) is used to make many new PET products and is one of the few polymers that can be recycled back into the same form again and again. Waste pickers are valuable players in the collection and recycling value chain. They contribute both environmentally and economically by selling materials to buy-back centres and ultimately helping to divert precious recyclable materials from landfills. Discover which everyday plastic items meet the criteria for waste pickers and learn how the right design can make a big difference. At Extrupet Group, we transform recyclable plastics into valuable rPET, supporting a circular economy and a greener future. 🌍 #Recycling #SustainablePackaging #CircularEconomy Kubili Recyclers (Pty) Ltd ExtruWood Propet SA - Polyester Fibre Pro-10™ Strap

As of the early 2000s, the global demand for plastic has been 35.6 million tons per year. Of that, 32.5 million tons per year are NOT recycled. Should that tonnage be sent to landfills or dumped into oceans? Some might be burned without producing toxic fumes. PureCycle Technologies, an Orlando-based company, offers another alternative. They produce reusable pellets from many discarded products that would otherwise be destined for a landfill (or the ocean). Consumer packaging, carpet fibers, food packaging films, and many other materials can be reclaimed and made into pellets. Those can be reused in many forms. #recycling #landfillwaste #plasticwaste #sustainability You can read more about the process here.

♻️Did you know have our own recycling plant where we reprocess plastic waste into granules? We can then use these granules to make a range of products, including polybags & hangers. These can be produced with any combination of virgin or re-processed material, for example, for a polybag we could use 50% re-processed & 50% virgin granules. As the percentage of reprocessed material increases, the clarity of the polybag gets lower, however as a company you are then helping to conserve resources & divert plastics from landfills or unintended destinations like our oceans 💚 If you’d like to discuss any packaging solutions for your business, or explore ways of becoming more sustainable with your choices as a brand, then we’d love to talk to you… 📞01376 529941 📧info@theconcepthouse.co.uk 💻 www.theconcepthouse.co.uk #labels #packaging #sustainableproducts #sustainableprinting #swingtickets #tags #embroideredlabels #wovenlabels #wrapbands #packagingdesign #fashionbusiness #clothingbrands #apparel #printedribbon #brandedribbon #etsyuk #ukmakers #polybags

Did you know that the universal recycling symbol, the "chasing arrows," doesn't guarantee recyclability? Manufacturers can print it on any product, making it more confusing for consumers. ♻️🚫 #RecyclingMatters 📰 Summary: The recycling system's complexity adds to the challenge. Understanding the numbers in the symbol is crucial, yet only specific plastics are widely recyclable. With just 9% of plastics ever manufactured being recycled, it's time to reassess our approach. 🌐 Challenges and Solutions: Confusing Rules: The variety of plastic types and rules confuses consumers. Local Variances: Recycling is local, with different town policies. Some places might not recycle at all. Production Surge: Plastics production has surged 100-fold since 1960, with over half designed for single use. Solutions: Consider extended producer responsibility laws, regulate single-use plastics, and rethink the chasing arrows symbol. Individuals can make informed choices and support local initiatives. 🌍💪 #PlasticWaste #RecycleRight #SustainabilityJourney #ReducePlasticUse https://lnkd.in/gSBttxER

“Planet vs. Plastics”—the international theme of this year’s Earth Day. It is important that we reflect on how we handle plastics. Firstly, we can reduce our plastic use, but plastic can also be recycled. This process is also known as circular economy and focuses on keeping resources, products and machines in circulation for longer. When we recycle waste and reuse it as a resource to manufacture new products, we create a closed loop or cycle. Jowat engages in the circular economy and uses sustainable packaging materials. Adhesives are gently filled into bags manufactured on-site from a continuous tubular PE foil, using an FFS packaging unit (form, fill, seal). For this purpose, we use a foil made of 30% recycled material. Packaging made of this foil can be recycled 100% and thereby facilitates the conservation of resources. In addition, we use big bags (FIBC) made from post-consumer recycled polypropylene (rPP-PCR), with an rPP content of about 30%. The aim of our efforts is to actively promote sustainable packaging solutions and, together with customers, to establish a sustainable cycle. #jowat #adhesive #adhesiveexperts #earthday #circularpackaging #circulareconomy

Today is world recycling day …. Plastics can not be recycled or reused infinitely. Let’s not get greenwashed by recycling scam. Here is our experience - Recycling and reusing without prior knowledge of the life cycle of a material is more harmful to environment . Plastics have a life and no matter how u try to use it or how beautiful artwork you create. It’s gonna end up in a state where it breaks into tiny pieces impossible to collect and recycle . First option should always be to avoid plastics . Second option is to send it to facility to melt it down for other purposes ASAP. There is no third option. Here a white thick plastic takeaway box being used as a flowerpot made it brittle , cracked within couple of months and in trying to salvage the plant it broke into small pieces. —For all those video where gardens are made out of plants in bottles. #notoplastics #plasticartworks #plasticflowerpot #plasticweathering #worldrecyclingday #18thmarch https://lnkd.in/eJmFkQ7c

𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀: 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗱 – 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲! 🌍♻️ Plastics have the potential to be 100% 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙮𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 and when recycled, they can actually be more eco-friendly than recycling other materials, like paper. Recycling plastics consumes less energy and water, making it a greener option. 𝙏𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙚 𝙘𝙪𝙥𝙨, 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙚𝙭𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚. Paper cups may seem like a better choice, but they often have a plastic lining and because of moisture, they cannot be recycled at all. Ironically, if these cups were 𝙢𝙖𝙙𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘, 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙗𝙚 100% 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙮𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚! The real problem isn’t that plastics can’t be recycled - they absolutely can. The issue is that we aren’t recycling them at the rate we should. So, how can we change that? - 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: Governments and businesses need to invest in better recycling systems that can handle all types of plastics efficiently. - 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Many people don’t know what can and can’t be recycled. Raising awareness and providing clear guidelines can help reduce contamination in recycling bins. - 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴: Companies should focus on designing products that are easier to recycle and use more recycled materials in production. - 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴: Promote and implement programs that motivate consumers to engage in recycling more actively and consistently. Stop blaming plastics and start fixing the way we manage them. Let’s turn recyclability into real action! 🌱 #RCDPLAS #Sustainability #PlasticRecycling #RecyclingRevolution #PlasticWaste #SustainableSolutions

ARE ALL PLASTICS CREATED EQUAL??? Plastic bottles rank among the nation’s top-recycled materials, yet millions of tons of plastic end up in landfills each year. At Quincy Recycle, we work with businesses and manufacturers to divert recyclable Post-Industrial plastics from landfills and maximize the value of their plastic loads. Not all plastics are equally valuable to recycle: different types have fluctuating market prices and uses. However, customers can increase the value of their plastic loads by taking proactive steps in their waste streams.
