Today, the Council for Green Revolution (CGR) provided medicinal plants to the @ZPHS jajapur Narayanpet district. 🌳 14 students and 1 staff has involved in the programme 🌱 55 saplings and 12 different types of saplings has been distributed 🌳 This programme aims to improve the classroom environment with natural remedies while also educating students on the value of medicinal plants in our daily lives. Taking conversations around environmental consciousness forward, our Safety, Health, Environment, and Sustainability (SHE&S) team continues its month-long campaign around the #WorldEnvironmentDay themes of land restoration, desertification and drought resilience. The campaign focuses on five areas: ensuring environmental compliance, optimising water efficiency and management practices, promoting energy conservation measures, enhancing waste management protocols, and safeguarding biodiversity. Part of the campaign is the 'everyone plants one' initiative - encouraging each individual to plant a sapling.    Joining our SHE&S team, our business units are actively engaging with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and other stakeholders to amplify the messages. Team Maximus from our India business reached out to 3,700 diabetologists and endocrinologists across India to distribute saplings. Through gender-transformative approaches, women are not just participants in agroecology but leaders driving the shift towards resilient, diverse, and sustainable food systems. By integrating indigenous knowledge with modern practices, they contribute to healthier soils, increased biodiversity, and improved crop yields, all while combating the challenges posed by climate change. Empowering women in agriculture is not only a matter of social justice; it is a strategic move towards achieving long-term food security. When women have access to land, resources, and education, they can implement sustainable farming methods that lead to greater food availability, better nutrition, and stronger local economies. As we continue to champion the rights of women farmers, it’s crucial to recognize their vital contributions to agroecology and food security. Approximately 18% of shareholders at PepsiCo voted in favour of a resolution to disclose its biodiversity impacts at the beginning of May. Not enough to force the organisation to act, but enough to put and keep it on the company's agenda. With organisations getting more and more pressure from shareholders to tackle biodiversity, we predict further acceleration towards a voluntary biodiversity market. I’m deeply inspired by my work with dryland communities, helping them adopt regenerative agriculture 🌱 to diversify their livelihoods and reduce reliance on pastoralism, which is increasingly threatened by climate shocks 🌍. One project that stands out is with a group of Maasai women in Laikipia North. After designing a 5-acre community garden 🌾 in April, we’ve made steady progress in transforming degraded land, impacted by overgrazing and soil erosion, into a thriving garden. This garden now provides fresh vegetables 🥕 for over 20 women, with the surplus sold locally 🛒. This project demonstrates that communities can achieve food security 🍅 and resilience by growing organic produce for their families, while generating income 💰 by selling surplus to neighbors. 🌍 Advancing #ClimateResilience and #SustainableAgriculture in India 🌱 This week, the Passing Gifts – a subsidiary of Heifer International team engaged with leading stakeholders, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, as well as prominent international organizations. Together, we explored potential avenues to advance our #CaringForEarth agenda and support #SmallholderFarmers through innovative and sustainable solutions. #KeyHighlights: 1️⃣ Engagement with the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmer Welfare, Government of India Our core team, comprising Rina Soni (Executive Director), Anamika Priyadarshini ( Director), Nawaz Alam ( Associate Director) from Passing Gifts along with Heifer International leaders Neena Joshi (Senior VP, Asia), Mark Chandler (Program Director - Environmental Initiatives), and Rabin Raj Niraula (Knowledge Management Lead, Asia), met with Shri Franklin L. Khobung, Joint Secretary (NRM/RFS). Facilitated by Parul Soni of Think Through Consultants (TTC), discussions revolved around: ➡️ Opportunities to collaborate on #ClimateResilientAgriculture (CRA), aligning with the government’s initiative to establish Project Management Units (PMUs) in every state. ➡️ Strengthening CRA priorities in #Odisha, #AndhraPradesh, and #Bihar, leveraging our expertise in sustainable agriculture. ➡️ Potential involvement in the Strategic Advisory Group for CRA implementation in program states. 2️⃣ Synergies with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) Conversations with Bhuvaneswari Balasubramanian (Country Director, India) explored enhancing the availability of nutritious food and reducing unsafe food consumption, with a focus on vulnerable rural communities. 3️⃣ Collaborations with Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) We met Soumya Prasad Garnaik (Country Representative, India & Asia Lead - Energy Efficiency) to discuss innovative, farmer-centric solutions that promote sustainable economic growth and align with our Caring for Earth mission. 4️⃣ Exploring Tech-Driven Solutions with Digital Green Trust India Discussions with Nidhi Bhasin (CEO) focused on scaling climate-smart agriculture and leveraging digital technologies to enhance rural livelihoods. 5️⃣ Synergies with the MacArthur Foundation India and Climate Asia Engagements with these organizations explored strategic partnerships to address climate change and drive impactful sustainable development initiatives. We are excited to announce the launch of the #GreenShinesBrightest Campaign, implemented by Tocau Karamoja Organization (TKO). This community-driven initiative aims to #restore our precious #environment in Karamoja, where trees are being cut down at alarming rates for firewood, charcoal, timber, and traditional walking sticks known as #Ebela. Our mission is to plant at least #200 trees every year, focusing on areas where trees are less likely to be cut, such as schools, health centers, and other institutions. By prioritizing these vital locations, we can ensure that our efforts contribute to a #sustainable future while providing shade and resources for our communities. The campaign is also accompanied by #communitysensitization and #advocacy efforts, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of trees and the need for #sustainable #practices. We believe that education and engagement are key to fostering a culture of #environmental stewardship. Having begun this important journey in Nabilatuk District last year, we are now looking to expand our reach and increase our impact across the region.
