SUMMIT OF THE FUTURE & UNGA 79! #Summitofthefuture was a good one and the PACT For the FUTURE awaits implementation. #UNGA79 is almost coming to a close next week and then the head of states head back to their respective countries to either continue with life as usual or do things differently (let's wait and see) For you out there who have been involved or followed either the #SOTF or #UNGA79 online, What 3 things stood out for you during these event? Share your thoughts and let's connect more and unite towards the realisation of the #SDGs. For me 3 things stood out. There exist 3 group of people 1. The talking group, who have access the boardrooms and can speak on behalf of their people and communities, this group are not so many they are a handful. 2. Then there is group of people who are in the communities who know what's going on and are doing what it takes to makes things change, by engaging those who have access to the high level boardrooms, again this group is not made up of so many but they are more than group 1 here. 3. Then there is this that group, all the people who know what needs doing to make communities proper and build a common future for us all, they might not have access to all the above groups but in their own rights they are doing things to move the needle forward for the SDGs even though their inputs, their impact, data and contributions are not captured anywhere. So here is my question Who should we focus on the most or who should we fund and resource to deliver the most impact? Keen to hear thoughts on this we all #Commit to #ActNow for #OurCommonFuture where no one is being left behind. Things are badly off but we can bring them back to normal but only if we do things differently and change the old ways of doing things. It's rarely a good idea to travel by car in New York City. And it's a particularly bad idea in/around Midtown Manhattan these next couple of weeks... Today is the start of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Beyond tired clichés about the traffic - and all the other aspects of thousands of people from government, civil society, private sector and the arts from 190 countries descending on New York for nearly three weeks - what happens during UNGA matters. This year’s UNGA (and its hundreds of side events and meetings) coincides with the Summit of the Future, aimed at redefining how we tackle the most pressing challenges of our time - including climate change, digital transformation, peace-building and sustainable development. This NAIDOC Week, we honour the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations cultures. The 2024 theme, "Keep the Fire Burning: Blak, Loud, and Proud," reflects the resilience and pride of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Fire symbolises connection to Country, community, and the rich traditions that have been passed down through generations. We are committed to supporting and amplifying Indigenous voices, not just during NAIDOC Week but throughout the year. We strive to build meaningful and respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, ensuring that their knowledge and perspectives are at the heart of our operations. Here are the five guiding principles that drive our approach: - Recognise, prioritise and embed the unique knowledge and wisdom of Traditional Owners, which includes caring for and speaking for Country. - Establish a renewed relationship with First Peoples in Victoria to ensure that First Peoples can share in the benefits of Victoria’s renewable energy transformation. - Empower Traditional Owners and Victorian Aboriginal communities to identify their evolving aspirations and determine their relationship with the SEC. - Embed governance principles, policies and processes to ensure the collective support and decision-making of First Peoples. - Ensure Victoria’s energy transition preserves, restores and strengthens the rights of Traditional Owners and does not diminish the rights that have been secured to date. #IWD2024 - Happy International Women’s Day! This IWD, may your call for liberation also include indigenous women, rural women, and ethnic minorities! 🧡🩷 2023 marked the hottest year yet, and 2024 in Thailand has been scorching in comparison to previous years. Under UN Women’s theme of Invest in women: Accelerate Progress, addressing the climate crisis is paramount. Women and girls bear a disproportionate burden of the climate crisis, especially indigenous communities, ethnic minorities, and rural populations who have contributed the least to climate change. Thailand, ranked 9th among countries most affected by climate change, sees its indigenous communities, Isaan ethnic minorities, and rural women bearing the brunt of this crisis. They are at the forefront, advocating for their rights and the preservation of our planet, yet they are also the ones most economically and systematically harmed by policies aimed at mitigating climate change. In Sab Wai Village and Phichit, women are standing up against the government's flawed climate policies, and Thailand's prioritization of profits over its people and natural landscapes. This cycle must end. The women of Sab Wai and Phichit deserve better! The fulcrum I wish to reiterate for myself & my ecosystem this 8th March is the need for the centering of the needs and aspirations of our priority groups. I strongly believe that the change which many of us look forward to will be most effectively translated into reality when the ecosystem comes together, as each jigsaw in the ecosystem has a very powerful role to play. We all affect and impact each other and the relationship between each actor, defines the whole. My hope is to see the equitable coming together of various actors, various sectors and resources to act for change by Investing in Women to Accelerate Progress. #UNGA2014 feels like it was in another life :) During UNGA 2014 I proudly represented the Open Government Partnership initiative, in my role of Civil Society Steering Committee member of the OGP. Today, more than ever, we have to be reminded about the importance of open government in shaping resilient, peaceful, and secure societies. The principles of transparency, accountability, inclusivity, and civic participation are not just ideals, but practical tools that empower citizens, build trust, and strengthen institutions. Today, these values are more critical than ever. Our world is facing complex challenges today —from brutal russia's war in #Ukraine to the rise of misinformation and disinformation—open government provides a framework for collaborative governance that drives stability and peace.
