The end of noncompete agreements will likely affect smaller companies more than large. The small business administration says it will help small business grow. The government track record on predictions doesn’t give me confidence. Could it have unintended consequences? I’ve owned a small business. The biggest risk is on employees. Especially, professionals. To make the investment in pay, training, and space without protection of a noncompete may reduce the number of small businesses looking to hire. You are typically operating at a loss for a period of time. If you risk never recuperating that investment back while training the competition…….might be too much to put on the table. Maybe not. I like freedom. Freedom to choose. Freedom to grow. Freedom to flourish. I hope it’s positive. It’ll be interesting to see if it is a boost like they say…..or possibly too loose and negative. I wonder if there was a middle ground? Certain industries? Certain time periods? I work with small business owners.
