Stuck in Program Purgatory? Here's Your Escape Plan! We've all been there. You sign up for an NGO program promising to launch you into disability ninja status (or something equally epic) ...only to find yourself graduating with a participation certificate and a vague sense of "maybe next time." Hey, NGOs, we really appreciate the effort! But sometimes, these programs feel like a revolving door. Let's be honest, real change takes more than a one-size-fits-all approach. Here's the real power move: This message is for YOU, the disability rockstar! Don't wait for a program to unlock your potential. You've got the skills, the talent, the inner badass waiting to be unleashed! Develop those skills, hone your craft, and shout your awesomeness from the rooftops. Become the facilitator of the next program, the sponsor with a wad of cash from your side hustle. (Because let's face it, some programs could use a serious funding upgrade ). The key to change lies within you. Love yourself enough to build yourself. You are unstoppable! #DisabilityEmpowerment #LevelUpYourSkills #BeTheChange Photo by Jaime Lopes on Unsplash

We are trying something new in the New Year, and hoping for your support. We have a lot of demand from organisations, many national, from all sectors: statutory, voluntary, private. As a leading self advocacy organisation that innovates, and employs and empowers people with a learning disability they want our help. Some have a service or event that they want us to tell people with a learning disability about. We help them find their audience. Some are developing a new service or event and want to know what we think about it. We tell them what works for us and their next steps. Some want to know what we think about a topic, we give them a space and audience to ask. Some want to know who we are and how we work - we tell them. Dealing with so many requests, prioritising, taking time out of our other work, using the expertise we've built up over the years by empowering individuals, has a cost to us of course. We've not asked for anything back till now. All our paid frontline staff have a learning disability because we believe it's important to value what people do. We've decided to follow that through, and from January we will be running Talk to Us Tuesdays! For only £30 you get your own half hour session (ish, we won't cut you off in mid flow!) to talk to our team, get feedback and help on any topic, along with our brilliant ideas. It's online, on Teams, and we'll be directing organisations who ask to meet us for a quick chat in the new year to our Calendly https://lnkd.in/erBvWKAJ Of course you can still get hold of us for other requests, and we will put up news of other services we can provide soon. How can you help us? Well, of course you can book a Talk to Us Tuesday! But if you've already worked with us it would be really great if you could repost this to your connections with your thoughts about what we've done well. Thanks for reading - comments very welcome!

It is our mission to help ALL people be #BetterWithMoney. And some are under even more financial pressure than others. For example, disabled households have additional costs and need to divert income to pay for specialist products and services, making them financially worse off. Scope outlines the disability price tag in this article. It is even more important to offer financial education to those in your organisation who are disabled. You can download our financial wellbeing services brochure from our website to see exactly how you can improve the financial resilience of everyone in your organisation. Spending time with retired folks is like hitting the storytelling jackpot! They've got time, wisdom, and some seriously epic tales to share. Plus, who doesn't love hearing about the good ol' days when they had to walk ten miles in the snow or scorching heat just to get to school? #BackInMyDay Not to mention, they always have the best advice and can drop some serious truth bombs that make you go "wow, I never thought of it that way." It's like getting a free life lesson with every conversation. So, if you're into swapping stories, gaining some wisdom, and maybe even scoring some homemade cookies, retired folks are where it's at. Just don't forget to bring your best listening ears and maybe a comfy chair, because once they start talking, there's no stopping them! #WisdomWednesday Together, let’s continue to break down barriers and create a more inclusive society for all. We build a stronger community together. Did you know that families supporting someone with a learning disability face an average of £975 in extra costs every single month? This financial strain puts many families under immense pressure, especially during the winter months, when living costs like energy bills are even higher. Mencap’s Learning Disability Helpline is a vital service, helping people with a learning disability and their families navigate these challenges. From offering advice on the benefits system to finding affordable energy contracts and providing budgeting support, the helpline often serves as a lifeline. However, we’re currently only able to answer 6 out of every 10 calls to the helpline. Too many people are left waiting for the vital support they desperately need. That’s why we’re participating in the Big Give Christmas Challenge 🎅🎄, aiming to raise £16,000 to extend this essential service to even more families. Every donation made before midday on Tuesday, 10th December, will be DOUBLED thanks to the generous support of Newhall Publishing. This is your chance to make twice the impact for people with a learning disability and their families. Your support could help us answer more calls, provide crucial advice, and ensure families facing financial struggles have the tools they need to get through the winter. We’ve made great progress towards our goal, but we still need your help. Please consider making a donation or sharing this with your network. Together, we can ensure more people get the support they deserve and make this winter a little easier for those who need it most. Help us get to 100% of our target! Let’s show the power of generosity this Christmas. https://lnkd.in/eKxvs34S
