More responsible Alberta energy is a win for our economy and for global energy security! But let’s be real—do we really believe the Alberta NDP will stand up to Justin Trudeau and his Liberals? Albertans deserve a government who puts our province first!

Cities and Towns are not in a competition for Federal Housing dollars. Every Municipality may apply and their success will be determined by the strength of their business case. Do they have housing issues? What is the data? What do they propose to create housing rapidly? Quebec is treated differently. Quebec is the only Province that did not sign the Constitution Act. Quebec did not sign the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. In 1976, they approved the Quebec Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Quebec is the only province with a Civil Code, which is based on the French Code Napoléon (Napoleonic Code). The rest of Canada uses a system based upon British Common Law. The Civil Code is primarily concerned with property rights in Quebec The Government of Canada is compelled to negotiate unique bi-lateral agreements with Quebec because Quebec's legal status is fundamentally unique. Quebec was given the status of a "nation within a united Canada" in 2006 under Stephen Harper's government. Alberta is not like Quebec. Alberta signed the Constitution Act which outlines Federal and Provincial powers. Comparing Alberta to Quebec misleads Albertans who don't understand these fundamental differences. Glossing over these differences is disingenuous. It also suggests that our Premier knows very little about our history, the Constitution, and doesn't care enough about these facts or whether she may be misleading Albertans.

Just like Quebec, Alberta is asserting its constitutional authority. No longer will the federal government get to pit cities against one another in our province with unreasonable conditions.

PRESSED TO DO MORE Alberta Government Must Do More to Avoid Red Ink - https://hubs.la/Q030H-Tn0 As Albertans look toward a new year, it’s worth reviewing the state of provincial finances. When delivering news last month of a projected $4.6 billion budget surplus for fiscal year 2024/25, the Smith government simultaneously warned Albertans that a budget deficit could be looming. Confused? A $4.6 billion budget surplus sounds like good news—but not when its on the back of historically high (and incredibly volatile) resource revenue. #abpoli #cdnpoli #canpoli #energy #oilgas #alberta #canada

I watched a video interview of David Frum yesterday where he commented about what if we held farmers responsible for the obesity epidemic in north America. He made the point that this logic is exactly the same as that being used right now for oil and gas in north America. The irony in Canada though it that this is being done as official policy of the government which has taken strategic political advantage of the politization of energy production, not consumption. The east is quite free to label CDN energy as dirty, but does not reject that 'dirty' money in equalization payments. Well why should Canadians be forced to pay much higher fees for milk/dairy because the non-existent family farm in Ontario and Quebec is protected as part of CDN culture? Time to rethink CDN politics that are more about virtue signaling than rational energy policy, for example for 50+ years Canadian have benefitted from cleaner than coal inexpensive weather independent hydro, CANDU and natural gas energy that actually works at -40 on our dark cold windless winter nights. Can the same be said for made in China wind/solar/EVs/heatpumps? And can we actually afford the upgrades to our grid that the "Just Transition" would require, clearly our incumbent government has no real clue as to our energy realities!

This op-ed piece, courtesy of Josh Andrus, Chairman Of The Advisory Board & Executive Director at Project Confederation, and guest columnist at The Western Standard (independent) News, is not behind the paywall. "A recent report from the Conference Board of Canada, originally presented to Alberta's Minister of Finance, Nate Horner and subsequently submitted to the federal government, adds weight to what many have been saying for months: Achieving the proposed emissions targets will likely necessitate production cuts. Sound familiar? That's because it is. And the consequences? Well, they're anything but palatable. After running three scenarios, the Conference Board concluded that: “emissions reductions through new investments and efficiencies are not sufficient to meet the proposed upper legal bound of 134 metric tonnes of Green House Gas emissions by 2030 and would therefore require production cuts (relative to the baseline production forecast in 2030 and beyond) to achieve the emissions target.” The Conference Board's analysis reveals that meeting the emissions targets won't come cheap. We're looking at potential job losses in the tens of thousands and a significant hit to Canada's GDP. Alberta, in particular, stands to suffer greatly. The Conference Board predicts that by the end of the next ten years, the country could see 82,000 to 151,000 job losses, with Alberta facing between 54,000 and 91,000 job cuts. Canada's total economic output (GDP) could decrease by $600 billion to $1 trillion between 2030 and 2040. During this time, Alberta's economy could shrink by 3.8%. Are the Liberals listening?
