I'm excited to share this CFP for a special issue with Science, Technology, and Human Values. The Special Issue invites contributions that explore racializing techno-environmental processes and how these are un/done, contested, or disrupted by knowledge practices and multispecies relations. Building on STS's critical role in analyzing how technology and scientific discourse materialize or challenge racialized inequalities, we aim to expand on frameworks of care, justice, abolition, and multispecies alliances to explore the intersection of techno-environmental relations and racialization. Here is the link to the complete CFP and the submission form: https://lnkd.in/erizN3Bd Please consider submitting an abstract. The deadline to submit an abstract is November 15th.

It was a joy hosting a fireside chat with Sasha Costanza-Chock about their book, Design Justice: Community-Led Practices to Build the Worlds We Need, at the Institute for the Cooperative Digital Economy (ICDE) at The New School. Main takeaway: we must approach design (of research / technology / policy) from an intersectional perspective that takes into consideration how individuals are differently molded by their environments, rather than an universalist one that assumes every user has the same background, attributes, needs, and wants. Sometimes, that might mean choosing a low-cost or low-tech solution over a “cutting-edge” one. And always, it means incorporating the users as much, and as soon, as possible so that we re-center control and power to the most disadvantaged. Check out an open access version of the book here: https://lnkd.in/eCbrwnay
