As I review NeurIPS submissions this year, it's evident that high compute costs are significantly limiting academia's ability to contribute to ML training research. A potential solution: cloud providers could establish a multi-tenant research cluster for academic use, offering compute resources in exchange for open-sourced models or usage licenses. This approach could be mutually beneficial - PhD students are considerably more cost-effective than full-time ML researchers (where there's a shortage as well), potentially leading to innovative breakthroughs at a fraction of the cost.

#CloudComputing for #compchem simulations? It's coming sooner than you think! This paper, just published last week, looks at the performance of various electronic structure simulation methods on Azure Quantum Elements. Their work highlights how cloud computing promises to help quantum chemists in the near future. https://lnkd.in/gaVYzZ3x While Q-Chem is not affiliated with or assessed in this publication, these authors provide a great perspective on cloud computing and computational chemistry as a service (CCaaS) frameworks, so we definitely think it's worth checking out. Keep an eye out for Q-Chem's own upcoming developments on the cloud computing front! ☁️
