April 28 is National Day of Mourning to remember workers who have suffered work-related disability, disease and death On April 28 - think about: - Attending a Day of Mourning event in your community - Updating your health and safety knowledge - Educate others about health and safety rights, responsibilities and prevention measures Remember and share our three basic rights as a Worker: 1. The right to know about the hazards we face. 2. The right to participate in eliminating hazards. 3. The right to refuse unsafe work.

#motornormativity also goes hand-in-hand with a #WindscreenView of traffic and road safety.
This is a must watch for anyone involved in policy making and/or design of roads, streets and the public realm. It explains the phenomenon of #motonormativity - a phrase coined by Professor Ian Walker of Swansea University to describe the unconscious bias we have towards driving and how it impacts on our approach to public policy and public realm design. It also features am excellent contribution from Lee Waters MS, the Welsh Minister for Transport who introduced the 20mph default speed limit in urban areas: "Lowering the speed, and the evidence is very very clear about this, reduces the number of deaths, reduces the number of casualties but also, critically changes the feel of a neighbourhood and allows more social interaction. So when there is less noise and less sense of danger people are more likely to go out and about. They are likely to talk to their neighbours, they are likely to allow their children play in their street. Their community feels different, and that then encourages and enables a different type of behaviour." https://lnkd.in/ev8PQMWh #PublicRealm #UrbanDesign #LiveableCities #CarDependency #TransportPlanning

On April 28th, we take a moment to remember the workers who have lost their lives due to workplace accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases. The Day of Mourning is a solemn reminder that safety should always be a top priority in all workplaces. As we reflect on the lives lost, we remember that each of these individuals had dreams, aspirations, and loved ones who mourn their absence every day. They were more than just employees, they were valued members of our workforce, and their contributions will never be forgotten. The Day of Mourning also serves as a call to action. It reminds us that we all have a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of ourselves and those around us. By fostering a culture of safety, implementing robust safety protocols, and providing adequate training and resources, we can prevent future tragedies and protect the lives of workers everywhere. Let us honor the fallen by prioritizing safety in everything we do. #DayofMourning #WorkplaceSafety #RememberingOurWorkers #SafetyFirst #HealthandSafety #WorkplaceWellness #HonorTheFallen
