We already know how physical performance drops over the course of a match, however, does that correlate with a reduction in technical output? Are some players able to still output at the same level technically despite running less far or having fewer high speed actions? Equally, if they are producing at the same level technically, are those technical actions in the correct areas? Or because they have reduced their movement, are we finding players dictating play in areas that no longer work in the greater scheme of the tactics. These are the sort of questions you can answer with Playermaker. Those nuanced queries around why my team performs a certain way under certain conditions. I adore during demos asking coaches and analysts these sort of questions, as that's when you begin to see their knowledge kick in. Watching a coach go into their element and assess how they might improve performance, them hear them vocalise solutions is great fun. There is - or there was - an intended difference between throwing a baseball as hard as you could, and pitching in a baseball game. Not anymore, it appears. When I coached youth baseball from Little League through HS Travel Leagues, I would stress three things about pitching: velocity, location, and movement. Velocity wasn’t meant to imply throwing as hard as possible every pitch, but rather mixing up the velocity. Location may seem obvious but every pitch is not intended to be a strike, or even hittable. And movement was intended to produce as late of movement as possible. Make no mistake, the secret to hitting is timing. And the secret to pitching is disrupting the hitters timing. The best hitters can always catch up to the best hitters fastball, as impossible as it may seem from a physics standpoint. Pitchers need to remember this, and save their arms and their careers. #mlb #theartofpitching
