Why individual star performers often make mediocre managers? 👇👇👇 Because very often, the very same things that made them successful as an individual performer are working against them when they become leaders: 🔹Stellar performance record that put these star performers on the map often means that they rarely needed coaching, so often they lack experience in coaching and developing others. 🔹Ambition and drive that got them to the “star” level usually mean that they have no idea how to deal with people who lack motivation. 🔹A high success rate often translates into a limited experience of reflecting on and learning from failures. Skills that got them promoted to the leadership position will not make them great leaders. 🏆 Leadership requires a different skillset and a real behavioral and mindset shift, which starts with developing self-awareness and creating a leadership roadmap. What do you think is the biggest challenge of switching from an "individual performer" to a "leadership" mode? #leadership #humanresources #leadershipdevelopment

Many people are promoted or recruited into leadership positions without understanding the fundamental philosophy of leadership: It’s all about people. When you are a leader, you are no longer responsible for doing the job; you are now responsible for inspiring, coaching, mentoring and motivating your team to become the very best version of themselves, which will help them produce their very best work. One must remember that the talents that make a person successful in a previous, non-leadership role are rarely the same ones that will make them excel as leaders. This is why we have many companies grossly over-managed and severely under-led. When a leader can inspire and empower their team to become the very best version of themselves by challenging their assumptions of what they can accomplish, they can now empower their team to believe in the impossible and produce unimaginable results to the astonishment of many. #leadership #management #leadershipdevelopment #employeeengagement #leaders #people #leadershipfirst #leadershipfirstquotes #executivesandmanagement #inspiration #giffordthomas #entrepeneurship

This quote by Simon Sinek resonates with real-world challenges in leadership, I found myself particularly thinking and reflecting about this in the context of Nursing Education. In nursing, educators often transition from being solely focused on the curriculum and teaching to being responsible for the well-being and development of students. In my opinion, a Nursing Educator, must not only ensure that the curriculum is delivered effectively but also prioritise the support and growth of the students who will become future nurses. This involves providing mentorship, and guidance, and creating a conducive learning environment that fosters the development of their professional and personal needs. I would love to hear what other Nurse educators think about Leadership, Nursing and Nursing Education. By shifting the focus from tasks to the individuals responsible for these tasks, nursing educators can better prepare their students to navigate the challenges they will face in their careers. This approach encourages a supportive and collaborative learning environment, where students feel valued, motivated, and equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel as healthcare professionals.

Great leaders do not create followers, they create more leaders. If you micro manage your team you don't allow them to grow, growth is where the magic happens and sets your team apart from others. 💪🎯

We’ve all encountered leaders or managers who were ineffective or toxic. While those experiences can be frustrating, they offer valuable lessons: Understand What Not to Do Poor leadership teaches us the impact of unclear communication, lack of empathy, or micromanagement. Use those examples to shape your own leadership style. Don't do what they did! Recognize the Importance of Feedback Bad managers often abandon feedback—giving or receiving it. Take that as a cue to listen to your team and foster open, constructive communication. Sometimes the toughest leaders teach us the most powerful lessons about the kind of leader we want to be. Build Resilience and Adaptability Working under poor leaders pushes us to adapt, grow, and find creative ways to succeed despite the obstacles. #Leadership #Growth #ProfessionalDevelopment #LessonsLearned #Management

As Leaders, We Are Often Taught To Stay Away From Our Emotions In my 15 years as an executive and leadership #coach, I've seen a common oversight: the undervaluation of emotions in #leadership. This isn't about making leadership all about feelings, but rather understanding that our emotions play a crucial role in how we lead. Effective leadership involves more than just #strategy and decision-making. It also requires emotional #intelligence. While I share leadership techniques and best practices, the heart of my coaching often centers on what's personally holding leaders back. Becoming a better leader isn't just about improving skills; it's about becoming more self-aware. This means recognizing our strengths, areas for growth, and the patterns that either serve us or hold us back. It's this self-awareness that can transform good leaders into great ones. Many leaders are hesitant to delve into emotions, fearing it's too personal for the professional realm. However, by reframing our approach to include emotional insights without directly confronting them, we open up a pathway to deeper understanding and leadership #development. True leadership strength lies in the balance of strategy, decision-making, and emotional intelligence. Let's not shy away from exploring the full spectrum of leadership to drive genuine and impactful change. #LeadershipGrowth #EmotionalIntelligence #SelfAwareness #LeadershipAdvice
