In the past few years, I’ve been inspired by people across the financial ecosystem who are building creative tools to finance and scale ClimateTech and ensure humanity confronts its most challenging problem. I’ve learned about lots of solutions, but many important questions remain: - How can we finance higher-risk emerging technologies?  - How can we help the middle-stage companies who often get overlooked? - How can we mainstream climate financing? As I explore these questions, I'm excited to announce the launch of my Climate Capital Stack newsletter! He was looking for the perfect resource about investment for climate tech and impact companies. He couldn't find it so he created it: Impact Supporters I was lucky enough to get a few words with August Solliv a few months back. In our conversation, August discusses the evolution of impact investing. We evoked the importance of understanding the landscape and the shift from knowledge-based content to interviews with industry experts in his content. Is climate investing the biggest financial investment opportunity in the next century? We had the chance to ask this question to Jacqueline van den Ende, Co-founder & CEO of Carbon Equity, the “it” climate FoF investing platform that this month closed a round of €100 million for climate solutions through its Climate Tech Portfolio Fund II, surpassing its initial target of €75 million. Here is part of Jacqueline's persuasive and compelling response 😉 "There are multiple investment themes. Artificial intelligence would be a huge theme, and software remains a big theme, as well as healthcare and cybersecurity. The difference with climate investing is that it touches literally every aspect of the economy. So fossil fuel—everything that we do is fossil-based. The polyester clothing that you're wearing, the muesli that you ate this morning for breakfast, is ultimately made with fertilizer made from fossil fuels. Maybe you got in a car or stepped onto your bike made of steel made with fossil fuels. So fossil fuels are the core energy based on which all of our wealth, the entire global economy, is built on top of fossil-powered energy. And so, the challenge to replace fossil with renewable and clean energy and to cut fossil out of every possible supply chain process in a record period is nothing less than the fourth industrial revolution (...) There is no future possible, no livable future possible in which we rely more on fossil fuels than we do today because climate change will ultimately catch up with us sooner than later". A few years ago the team at Contrarian Ventures and then 2150 took on the thankless job of building a free resource for founders and climate curious investors - a ranked list of climate VC funds! But this isn't the too common I-asked-some-people-and-here-are-names. There is a thoughtful methodology, shared in detail, to understand things like level of activity, value of companies, scale of impact etc. And to wrap things up, there is a voting period as a proxy for how firms can mobilize their communities to get support.
