The healthcare sector is vulnerable to cyber-attacks. As the sector is a connected ecosystem. It is a challenge of securing data both now and tomorrow. 🚑🔐 I attended the "Ctrl+Alt+Defeat" panel on cybersecurity in healthcare at HLTH Europe! Here are some key takeaways: 1️⃣ Interconnected Security 🔐 Your security depends on your measures but also on your partners. It's not just about protecting your own house but ensuring others are secure too. Software providers and Medical Devices manufacturers must be attentive to the cyber security. 2️⃣ Cybersecurity Teams 🤓 Having dedicated cybersecurity staff within manufacturing teams is now essential. It is a significant shift from the past. We also observed this in the latest FDA regulations. 3️⃣ Human Factor 👨👩👧 Often, the entry point for cyber threats is not technical but human. Balancing usability and security is crucial. Dr. med. Markus Leyck Dieken humorously illustrated it. The German ePrescription app requires 4 authentication factors. While highly secure, it isn't very accessible. 😂 4️⃣ Generative AI 🤖 GenAI systems can code attacks, increasing the rate of attacks which is new. Fortunately, the same technology helps us create better detection and blocking rules. 5️⃣ Data Leaks and LLM ⚠️ Large Language Models (LLMs) are great to extract information from the health records. But, those need special attention to avoid data leakage. 6️⃣ Data Sharing for Health Advancement 🧪 Sharing data is critical for advancing medical science and improving public health. Aggregating data across healthcare systems is key to the medicine of the future. 8️⃣ Cybercrime as a Business 💰 As Katrin Vatiska put it, cybercrime has now become a business. It is not anymore a young with a hoodie in a dorm room. We are now facing professional organization. That was a great session.
