Built from only a handful of connection types, however: each connection is geometrically unique and composed of several individual parts. This striking roof structure tops off Capital C in Amsterdam (NL), creating a transparent, light and open space. The steel spatial structure is 45 meters long, 21 meters, wide and 10 meters high and functions is a grid shell: the constructive force is absorbed by double curvature in the roof’s surface. This provides enormous freedom of form and allows a large span without columns. Octatube was challenged to realise the innovative and complex design of ZJA. With our own software, we turned the design into a parametric production model, which converted the complex wireframe geometry into a FEM-model and a detailed production model. We digitally generated and processed all more than 1 000 unique steel elements and more than 200 unique glass panels into compositions down to the smallest detail, which allowed us to fully control both the production and the swift and highly precise (pre)fabrication of the structure. Moreover, we were able to make changes and optimisations until late in the design and engineering process, with a file-to-factory workflow. Thanks to the parametric design of the project, the construction turned out to be not only technically feasible, but also cost-effective. 🏗️ The Highs and Lows of Scaffold Design 🚧 As Sunday draws to a close and Monday approaches, some of us are looking forward to the projects ahead, while others may be dreading the start of the week. As designers, we all know the feeling – peaks and troughs are part of the process. But no matter the challenges, it’s a fantastic industry to be a part of. This coming week, I’m working on a range of projects – some large, some small, and others more complex. Each brings its own unique challenges, but that’s what makes scaffold design so rewarding. To all the designers out there, whether you’re dealing with straightforward or intricate designs, I hope you have a great week. Let’s continue to innovate, stay safe, and push boundaries. Happy designing and here’s to a productive week ahead! #ScaffoldDesign #ConstructionLife #DesignChallenges #MondayMotivation #TemporaryWorks #StructuralDesign #SafetyFirst #EngineeringSolutions #ConstructionInnovation #TG2021 #NASC #Scaffolding #UKConstruction

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗼𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗼: 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗹! Is this the most spectacular example of kinetic architecture ever? The stadium's roof can open and close as needed, providing versatility for various events and weather conditions. The roof is composed of 4 panels which are each powered by a set of powerful motors and cables, and covers an area of 32,100 m2. The 2 middle panels slide laterally to stack over the north semi-circular panel, and then the south semi-circular panel rotates around the stadium and nests inside the stack. The time lapse video shows the 20 minutes movement of the closing roof in seconds: isn’t it spectacular? #stadium #engineering #structuralengineering #engineer For more: 📌 Follow #ImpressiveEngineering 📌 Click on the 🔔and select “All”
