As we look ahead, the task facing the new Government looms large. The sad fact is that approximately 4.3 million children are growing up in poverty in the UK today. Across the nation, children attend school on empty stomachs or return to homes lacking heating or even a proper bed. An additional 1.4 million children experience mental health conditions, often without adequate support from an overstretched system. Our children deserve better, and we are calling on the Prime Minister and his Government to take bold action now to safeguard their futures. At the NSPCC, we remain steadfast in our commitment to ensure that political leaders prioritise the protection of babies, children, and young people in their future plans, to ensure every childhood is one of safety, happiness, health and opportunity. Through our recent joint campaign with other children’s charities, Children at the Table, we have been calling for the UK Government to: 🤝 Work together to improve the lives of babies, children and young people 🧒 Put children’s needs and voices at the heart of decision making 💷 Spend more of the nation’s wealth on babies, children and young people #nspcc #childline #poverty #politics #labour #newgovernment #politicsuk #keirstarmer #childrenatthetable #charity #coalition #children #babies #families #youngpeople #policy #hunger #participation #youthvoice #legislation #mentalhealth #health #wellbeing Action for Children Barnardo's National Children's Bureau The Children's Society #everychildhood

A Saturday morning well spent… I don’t usually work weekends or do hands-on advice and support, but this morning I attended a coffee morning on behalf of our local MP with Citizens Advice Carlisle & Eden to discuss Benefit and the Household Support Fund, which I’ve been responsible for distributing this time around. While there, I had the privilege of chatting 1-1 with some of the people in attendance, and it was a humbling reminder of the immense need in our communities. Never underestimate the challenges people face, what they put up with, what they don’t say because of the stigma they endure, or how deeply proud they are. The thought of “being a scrounger” is so hurtful to so many. And this portrayal of people in poverty being devious is so painful to too many good people who are really getting a rough deal through no fault of their own. Living in poverty sometimes means accepting handouts— but people really don’t want this, they just want a fairer deal, the chance to thrive instead of just survive. Cumberland Council received just over £2 million through the Household Support Fund to help those most in need with access to essentials. But even with these resources, the demand is overwhelming. It’s a stark reflection of the reality many are living in and a call for systemic change. Supporting people is about dignity, equity, and ensuring no one is left behind. Let’s keep working towards that better deal. #Poverty

Children are the most vulnerable group in poverty, and for many, the barriers they face begin early. For these children, a lack of resources—like proper identification—can shape their entire future. Why does an ID matter for youth? Without an ID, children and teens may struggle to access vital resources like: Enrollment in schools or colleges Health insurance and medical care Extracurricular activities or scholarships Employment opportunities as they reach working age For families already living paycheck to paycheck, these barriers can keep children trapped in the cycle of poverty for generations. At Main Street Ministries, we believe every child deserves an opportunity-filled future. That’s why we’ve launched initiatives to help families secure identification for their children and provide them with the tools they need to thrive—a brighter tomorrow starts with action today. Change takes time, but the impact lasts a lifetime. Here’s how you can help: Donate to support our youth ID assistance programs Volunteer your time to perform interviews Share this post to spread awareness Together, we can break the cycle and give every child a chance to succeed. Let’s make this January, Poverty Awareness Month, a turning point for the next generation. Today is International Day for the Eradication of Poverty 🌍, and at Save the Family, we're shining a light on the hidden crisis in Chester and across the UK. 🚨 Did you know? In 2023, over 140,000 children in the UK were reported as homeless. 70% of families experiencing homelessness are survivors of domestic abuse. 🏠💔 In Chester alone, there’s been a 30% rise in family homelessness in the last year, with poverty as a leading cause. Poverty isn't just about a lack of resources—it's about a lack of safety, security, and opportunity. Domestic abuse and homelessness often go hand in hand, trapping families in cycles of hardship. We believe every family deserves a safe place to call home. At Save the Family, we provide not just shelter, but support, hope, and a way forward. 💜✨ 👉 Find out more and learn how you can help: https://buff.ly/49xWVhB #EndPoverty #SaveTheFamily #HomelessnessAwareness #DomesticAbuse #FamiliesInNeed #InternationalDayForPovertyEradication #SupportFamilies

The YSB is committed to using data to drive change. Here is an up-close snapshot of the data in our state and the region's services by the YSB. Though these numbers are unsettling, they are a very real snapshot of poverty levels in our state and local communities. The numbers don't just show the rates of poverty; they also connect the dots on how poverty impacts the children and families of our communities. Understanding how poverty shapes our communities and impacts the quality of life is necessary if we really want to see a transformation in our communities.
Understanding Local Needs: Child Poverty in Our Community Data reveals important insights about the well-being of children in our region. Here's a look at the number of children living in poverty compared to the Louisiana state average, based on the national poverty guidelines for each given year: 📍 Louisiana (2022) 261,310 children living in poverty (25% of the state’s children). That’s 1 in every 4 children statewide. 📍 Morehouse Parish (2022) 2,220 children living in poverty (40% of the parish’s children). 📍 Ouachita Parish (2022) 12,870 children living in poverty (26% of the parish's children). What can we do to help? Here are some impactful ways to support children living in poverty: 🍎 Donate to local food banks, shelters, and community programs. 🗨 Advocate for policies that improve access to healthcare, quality education, and affordable childcare. 🤝 Volunteer your time or skills with local organizations supporting youth and families. 🚸 Mentor a child or provide after-school tutoring to boost confidence and academic success. 👨🏭 Support job training programs for parents to create long-term family stability. ⚠ Raise Awareness about the challenges of child poverty and inspire others to get involved. Together, we can bring hope and opportunity to every child, helping them thrive and reach their full potential. #CommunityImpact #ChildPovertyAwareness #LouisianaKids #YSPBOnTheMove #yspb #WorkingTogetherToMakeADifference

We observed Strong Family Sunday yesterday, but our commitment to caring for vulnerable children and families around the world continues. 🌍💛 Today is World Orphan Day, and we want to highlight a fantastic resource for supporting vulnerable children in the best possible way: “...effective and sustainable poverty alleviation doesn’t start with bringing in lots of outside money; rather, it begins with an asset-based approach—identifying local resources that can solve local problems. In this situation, an assets-based approach reveals that the most essential asset for child-rearing is already present in the most impoverished settings: family.” - When Helping Hurts: Vulnerable Children by Brian Fikkert and Jack Eans 📖 Find this powerful book on ethical mission work and other resources in the Strong Family Sunday Toolkit. 📚 These materials are available year-round and include educational content and guided prayers for your devotional time with friends, family, and church communities. 🙏🏽 #PureReligionSunday #StrongFamilySunday

🙏🌍 𝐀 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐑𝐀𝐃𝐋𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐇𝐎𝐏𝐄 🤝💚 Working at THE CRADLE OF HOPE is both challenging and heartbreaking. Every day, we witness the harsh realities that poverty, hunger, violence, and neglect impose on our community. We strive to be the source of hope and relief for struggling families. However, there are moments when our hearts ache repeatedly. The unending misery, poverty, neglect, and the continuous stream of hungry individuals—it never ceases. We often question whether our efforts make a meaningful impact. Are we reaching enough people? Are we truly making a difference? We sometimes wonder if our work goes unnoticed or if anyone truly cares about it. Today, we face the unfortunate reality of potential program closures due to financial constraints. Thousands of hungry adults and children will face even more hardship. Our funds have run dry. We frequently hear encouraging words like, "The Lord will provide." But we must remember that the Lord provides through people—obedient people. Many believe it's "others" who will step in to assist, but the truth is, so few "others" actually do. Let us remember our purpose and the reason we embarked on this journey. We recognize that God is our ultimate hope, and His call is to serve His people with love and faithfulness. We humbly ask for your support. We do not possess superhuman abilities or perform miracles, we are ordinary people deeply committed to making a positive impact. We are THE CRADLE OF HOPE. Poverty was not created by God. It is we who have caused it, you and I through our egotism. - Mother Teresa Since Mother's Day was yesterday, it's only appropriate that we hear from one of the world's greatest mothers. Even though she didn't have any children of her own, she was the world's finest mother to all she met, and cared for. "Egotism" is defined as the practice of talking and thinking about oneself excessively because of an undue sense of self importance. Pretty much sums up what's going on collectively in our country today, no? Ladies and gentlemen, there're 37.9 million poverty stricken and homeless Americans living in our country today, 11 million are helpless, and vulnerable children, and 1.5 million are our nation's heroes, our beloved vets...and things are not getting better but worse! The first question that must be asked is. DO WE CARE!? And the second. Is, what we are doing to end poverty and homelessness in America working, and sustainable? Put down your foolish pride, ego, and sense of self importance and admit it, we as a nation are failing our nations most vulnerable citizens! At this very moment, we have the expertise, resources, and billions to end poverty and homelessness in America. But because of our nationwide, collective sense of self worth, importance, and priorities. We have chosen to put a band aid on a national crisis that's on life support! What will we say to our children, and the generations of Americans that follow when they ask. Why, did we do nothing when we had the expertise, resources, and billions to do something about it? Sign, and share our Petition From America at https://chng.it/9Rv7m52fmf so we can collectively as a nation, petition our United States Congress, and nation's leaders that We The People demand permanent change in the landscape of our nation's most vulnerable citizens, and an end to poverty and homelessness once and for all. #choosechange #choosecharities
