CEO at Hubbub, inspiring action that’s good for the environment and for everyone

999? It’s an emergency! 🚨 Millions of pumpkins are in danger. 🎃 The average family throws away £80 of food every month. Halloween is no exception. Last year, over 12 million pumpkins ended up in the bin. 😱 Each one could have been a delicious feast: a risotto, muffins, or pumpkin mac and cheese. 🧑🍳 So save the knives for later and don't carve your pumpkin: decorate it instead. Less mess, less stress, and you can eat the whole thing after. 😋 Have you tried decorating it yet? Check the new promo film below and catch it on All4 throughout the month as part of our Eat Your Pumpkin campaign. ++ P.S. I'm CEO of environmental charity Hubbub. We create campaigns with business, government and civil society that inspire environmental action. One problem with this: pumpkins have been growm for size, not for taste, for a long time. They look and taste nothing like they used to. Tried to bake one last year and it was disgusting. Just don't buy them anymore? Or replace with another kind of squash?

We're monster fans of minimal pumpkin waste and have experimented with both carving and cooking (fail safe winning recipe has to be roast pumpkin soup - freezable too), and decorating then devouring. Would freely admit that we've had some challenges with paint removal with the latter approach (!) but 100% onboard with the principle of minimising the waste. Bravo to you for championing a solution that keeps the fun in Halloween but hopefully helps some of those 12 million pumpkins find their way into bellies and not just waste bins this October...

Love this! What a brilliant way to raise awareness about food waste during Halloween. 🎃✨ I never realized how many pumpkins go to waste each year, and turning them into delicious meals instead of binning them is such a simple yet impactful change. Plus, decorating instead of carving sounds like a fun and creative solution!

In all honesty, I *love* cooking with pumpkin - I always wish they were around longer. Spiced pumpkin fudge is so, so good 😊🎃
