Returning to the Plastic Industry and recent independence, post WWII stories, I'd like to remain at this time. The invention of Plastic started in the very late 19th century while most plastic materials were developed around 1920-30. Major inventions belong to Du Pont, Hoechst, Dow, BASF, Bayer, but also ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) who developed Polyethylene accidently during another experiment. One earlier pioneer was Leo Baekeland in the US who invented Bakelite in 1907. It was the 1st fully synthetic plastic material already named: 'material of thousand uses'. Plastic materials started to come into use during WWII (Du Pont's Nylon was used first as a new material for parachutes) and came into wide commercial applications afterwards. The entire worldwide Plastic production in 1950 was just 1.5 million ton!! With rapid developments since then, todays production is about 450 million ton and growing. Plastic materials are essential to our modern lifestyle. At the same time we must realize that it is still a very young industry of only 80 years. Considering this there is much more to look forward to and recent efforts in Recycling are parts of that development.

🌿🚗 This June, let's celebrate #HempHistoryMonth by honoring the vision of Henry Ford, who back in 1941, built a car made from hemp plastic and fueled by hemp, inspired by his belief in renewable resources and a sustainable future. Today, major car manufacturers like Ford, GM, Stellantis, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen, Volvo, Porsche, and Lotus are exploring the use of hemp plastic, a material that's lighter than glass fiber and requires less energy to produce. The market value of hemp is on the rise, with the global industrial hemp market projected to grow from $9.47 billion in 2024 to $47.82 billion by 2032. This growth is driven by the high nutritional values of hemp, technological advancements in the hemp industry, and increasing product demand in various sectors. But the uses of hemp plastic extend beyond the automotive industry. It's a versatile material that can be used in 3D printers, injection molds, disposable dishware, utensils, and packaging. It's 100% plant-based, chemical-free, and can be recycled indefinitely. Most importantly, hemp plastic is a game-changer for the environment. It's a carbon-negative resource, absorbing more greenhouse gases than it emits. Just one ton of industrial hemp stems can absorb 1.6 tonnes of CO2, making it one of the best carbon sequestration options on the planet. As we look to the future, let's remember the potential of hemp plastic and its role in creating a more sustainable and eco-friendly world. In 2022, 400.3 Mt of #plastics were produced worldwide (Source: Plastics Europe). Unsurprisingly, consumers and legislative authorities are demanding change and more careful use of resources to achieve a plastics industry that is as climate-neutral as possible. The Institute for Materials Technology and Plastics Processing (IWK Institut für Werkstofftechnik und Kunststoffverarbeitung), part of OST – Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences is working on contributing to this goal. Throughout the years, many debate have arisen on the use of plastics which has been used in many sectors and made day to day human life easier. Durability of products made by plastic hence saves budget for daily uses and also reduces the over use of other natural resources which are not abundant in nature and are vital for healthy environment. Lack of knowledge of appropriate uses of plastics hence created a dilemma in human mind. Utilization of natural resources as raw materials are needed for the invention and creation of new products. But as the citizen of the technologically advanced world of today we also need to be aware of the use of these new inventions which we lack still in this 21st century. Lack of knowledge and awareness are the main reasons which we todays human need to work on for adapting this new era. HAKS Industries Limited haksbd.com https://lnkd.in/gjyHqDen
