If you’ve been watching the Paris Olympics, you’ve seen that handoffs are important to success. But did you know that handoffs are crucial to success in organizations as well? In a study of innovation handoffs in 3 organizations, my co-authors Amy Edmondson Oda Dregelid and Sofie Rud Zimmer and I found that a sense of psychological ownership of the innovation project was crucial for innovation success. We explore key mechanisms that organizations use to drive successful innovation projects. https://lnkd.in/dQykXhzX

According to Frank Henningsen of HYPE Innovation, innovation teams "are often seen as the engine of change within an organization, but they frequently encounter obstacles that stall progress. These failures often arise from avoidable pitfalls, not from a lack of talent or effort. By addressing these challenges, organizations can strengthen their innovation efforts and improve overall outcomes." Read "Building Resilient Teams: Solutions to Common Challenges in Corporate Innovation," to learn Frank's insights on common corporate innovation failures and how to avoid them. https://lnkd.in/eG39xx7f

Innovation is a powerful concept on its own. But without a strategy? It simply loses its power. You can spend millions of dollars and hundreds of hours on setting up innovation programmes, labs, hackathons, the list goes on. But the numbers show that when companies fail to connect their innovation efforts with strategy, from the very beginning and through every stage, all of this can be for nothing. At the end of the day, value is measured through bottom-line growth. When these efforts produce little in the way of results, you can be certain there’s a disconnect between innovation and strategy. Rather than plugging the gap when the leak occurs, make sure there isn’t a gap to begin with! #Innovation #Strategy #Disruption

I am reposting this because Jay and Harvard Business Review have caught onto a flaw in embracing faster change with Centers of Excellence, and Innovation Labs. I agree that to make these successful a clear corporate strategy driven from the top with endorsement for change from leadership needs to be in place. How are you embracing the pace of faster change today? Is your innovation being driven by executives or other parts of your business? #strategy #corporateinnovation
Change Agent, Irreverent Rogue. Challenging the status quo to drive digital transformation in the modern workplace.
The disconnect between company direction and innovation is real. Often times, corporations will establish innovation labs in hopes of finding some magic pill to spur growth. On the flip side, most innovation labs are enamored by the autonomy that their charters seemingly grant and plot their own direction. Result? The labs are shuttered almost as quickly as they were meant to provide solutions. For a corporate innovation lab to be successful, it needs to be guided by a clear corporate strategy. That, in itself, may pose challenges - the strategy may lack clarity or priorities may not have been set. Nevertheless, the strategy is the North Star here. Awesome article from Harvard Business Review breaking this down and also highlighting the different perspectives of problem and opportunity: #strategy #innovation #corporatestrategy #corporateinnovation
