Mixed methods research has recently gained prominence in management research for several reasons. Mixed methods research combines qualitative and quantitative research approaches within a single study. In my opinion, the following are some key reasons why mixed methods research is becoming increasingly popular in the field of management: 1. Mixed methods research allows researchers to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the research problem. By combining qualitative and quantitative data, researchers can explore different facets of a phenomenon, providing a richer and more nuanced perspective. 2. The use of both #qualitative and #quantitative methods provides methodological triangulation. This involves cross-verifying findings from one method with those from another, enhancing the credibility and validity of the research results. This helps overcome the limitations inherent in each method. 3. Management research often involves complex and multifaceted issues. Mixed methods research enables researchers to approach research questions from multiple angles, taking advantage of the strengths of both qualitative and quantitative methods. This can lead to a more holistic and robust analysis. Share additional thoughts as comments... "Conducting Mixed Methods Research" by Viswanath Venkatesh et al. (2023) is the best book I have come across on mixed methods. This book is available to download for free at https://lnkd.in/dkqAddNZ #research, #mixedmethods, #management #managementeducation
I am happy to share that our book on mixed-methods research, which I have coauthored with Sue Brown (Arizona) and Yulia Sullivan (Baylor), is now available and open access. The book significantly expands on our earlier papers (MISQ 2013 with Hillol Bala and JAIS 2016). It's been a great journey for us working on mixed-methods research in various ways (e.g., projects, guidelines) for about two decades. This book seeks to promote mixed-methods research to the broad research community by presenting guidelines and templates to structure and write papers. Key contents in the book: · detailed design and execution guidelines for the conduct of mixed-methods research; · most importantly, the book provides extensive practical guidance including templates for writing mixed-methods papers depending on the purpose of mixed-methods research; and · critically, the book provides guidelines for reviewers and editors in assessing mixed-methods research and papers. I have enjoyed working with Sue and Yulia on this book that’s been years in the making. Yulia’s diligence, while juggling the demands of early career stages, were critical to the completion of this book. Sue and I have also enjoyed working with Hillol, who worked with us during our early forays into mixed-methods research. Finally, we are grateful to Virginia Tech Publishing for their support in helping us make this book freely available. Happy mixing methods to all! #mixedmethods #openaccess https://lnkd.in/giBc-n8S

Scientific thinking offers a structured and evidence-based approach to understanding and addressing complex challenges like the environmental crisis. Some authors call this "third millennium thinking" or... "allowing as many people as possible to be empowered - to empower themselves - by using scientific thinking." This new book should be an interesting read, reminding us of the importance of critical thinking in an age of disinformation. Re. "Third Millennium Thinking: Creating Sense in a World of Nonsense". https://lnkd.in/e4ryGWx8

It's great to have your scientific findings published, but it's especially fulfilling when you know that it is read by many others in the field! I'm very excited to find out that the article (https://lnkd.in/g7H4AGJt) I wrote together with Andriy R. Kuzmyn, Francesco Simone Ruggeri, Maarten Smulders and Han Zuilhof was one of the most read papers in Wiley's Advanced Materials Interfaces. Looking forward to do more impactful research! #TopDownloadedArticle

🔗 Why do we recommend "linking peer-reviewed articles"? Preprints.org encourages authors to connect their preprint papers with the peer-reviewed versions for mutual benefits. Once linked, citation formats of peer-reviewed articles appear on preprint pages, means: 🔹 Stay Updated: Readers track research progress from preprint to publication. 🔹 Wider Reach: Peer-reviewed versions reach broader audiences, offering reliable references. 🔹 Enhanced Citations: Links prompt citing peer-reviewed versions, boosting citations and impact. It's a win-win for authors and readers alike! https://brnw.ch/21wLiBF

Don't let your llm's ingest bad science I've written about the problems of paper mills, faux journals, and junk science before, but recent advancements in #genAI have turbo-charged these problems. Another example of the scope of the problem comes recently from John Wiley & Sons. A new detection service from Wiley flagged between 10-13% percent of submitted manuscripts that were sent for review to 270 journals during a pilot phase. Wiley is a top tier, respected publisher. What do you think the percentage will be for less rigorous, less respectable outlets?? #CaveatLector https://lnkd.in/eSQTXtHY
