Thank you for the posting and the discussion question! From the instructions that I tend to focus on, mindfulness, even from some western teachers, is not a tool for stress reduction. It may result in lower stress or improved concentration, but those are nice "side effects". Mindfulness, as you pointed out, can provide insight into living a more skilled and aware life, even as you start to lose the sense of even seeking for any goal at all.

This article (written in Japanese) provides answers to the discomfort I have felt regarding the way mindfulness is conveyed in Japan from a Western perspective. It points out that mindfulness carries different interpretations and values depending on the cultural background, and each approach has its own unique charm and effectiveness. In the West, mindfulness is primarily viewed as a technique for stress management and improving mental health, introduced as a means to soothe an active mind. In other words, the approach emphasizes regaining psychological balance. On the other hand, I feel that the approach to mindfulness in Japan is rooted in the country's unique culture and traditions, especially the spirit of Zen. Mindfulness here is perceived not just as a technique to reduce stress but as a way of life and philosophy to simplify the mind and maintain serenity. This difference is reflected in the feedback from participants in the corporate training sessions I provide, such as feeling relieved or realizing "this is okay." Many people experience inner insight and peace through mindfulness. Mindfulness, with its different interpretations and values influenced by cultural backgrounds, seems to have its own unique charm and effectiveness in each approach. Has mindfulness been shown to effectively alleviate work-related stress and strain? Is it possible for non-formal mindfulness training to alleviate the adverse effects of a negative mood that is produced by your work? Daniel et al. (2022) propose that the primary attributes of mindfulness are to assist individuals in regulating their attention to maintain an object focus on the present experience, thereby preventing the depletion of personal resources by managing unnecessary, undesirable, and uncontrollable negative emotions (Yagil et al, 2023). It empowers employees to assign appropriate resources to enhance their work priority and thus strengthen their autonomy. Meanwhile, the study carried out by Daniel et al. (2022) aimed to investigate the impact of mindfulness on the relationship between workaholism and work and family conflict. The findings indicate that individuals who possess the trait mindfulness may possess a greater capacity to attenuate the negative effects of workaholism, hence reducing the occurrence of work and family conflict. In addition, engaging in continuous mindfulness practice may produce the same protective impact as participating in formal mindfulness training (e.g. MBSR). This is because continuous mindfulness practice allows individuals to enhance their self-regulation of attention and non-judgmental abilities through self-training. Time and truth are two things that always go hand in hand. It is crucial to pause and reflect on who truly has your best interests at heart. Taking care of one's own needs and well-being is not a self-centred or egotistical act, but rather an essential priority that should be given the highest importance. It is only by prioritizing oneself that one can ensure a healthy, fulfilling and balanced life. So, it is crucial to understand that focusing on oneself is not just beneficial, but also necessary for leading a happy and successful life. Please take a moment to think about who you can count on for support when you need it. Never underestimate the importance of surrounding yourself with people who genuinely care about your progress and well-being. #selfcare #mindfulness #reflection #healthcare #emotionalintelligence

It seems like all our moaning about the weather did in fact pay off! ☀️ There’s nothing like a little tranquility in nature to reset and refocus. Remember to take time for yourself, breathe in the fresh air, and appreciate the little moments. Here’s to balance and the beauty of slowing down, even if it’s just for a moment. How do you unwind after a busy day? #WorkLifeBalance #SelfCare #NatureTherapy #Recharge #Mindfulness
