Highlight of the Year (5/6): CUES hackathons and Part I-II transition talk This week’s highlight gives a glimpse into the hackathons organised by some of our sponsors and Part I-II transition talk. Part I-II Transition Talk: About 10 Part IIA and IIB engineers talked about their experiences on the modules in a panel. It was then followed by a round of questions from the audience and an informal chat subsequently where the audience could speak to the panel individually. Intro and Agemo AI hackathon: In the Intro Hackathon, students tackled LeetCode-style challenges, gaining valuable experience in data structures and algorithms. Meanwhile, the Agemo AI Hackathon allowed participants to explore the startup’s cutting-edge LLMs and generative AI models, leading to the creation of innovative applications in just one day. 🎉 We’re excited to welcome Max Nihlén Ramström back to Modulai, this time joining our #Basel team as a Machine Learning Engineer. 🚀 Max holds a Master’s in Engineering Physics with a focus on Machine Learning from #KTH, Stockholm. He previously worked with us in our Stockholm office before gaining valuable experience at NAVER Corp. in South Korea. We’re glad to have him back and look forward to his contributions in Switzerland! 🧗♂️ ⛰ In his free time, Max enjoys staying active with climbing and hiking. 🔸 Why did you decide to join Modulai again? After working in the corporate world for a while, where projects often span several years, I realized that I missed working as a consultant on projects that are typically shorter and more varied. The working culture at Modulai is fast-paced, with a focus on continuous learning—both things that I value in a company. Last but not least, I really enjoyed working with everyone at Modulai and was happy to find that most of the people I knew from before are still working here. 🔸 Why is the art of applied machine learning interesting to you? Applied ML often makes it possible to solve very complex problems in relatively simple ways. I also like that you can apply the same techniques in very different settings. For example, there is not much difference between applying ML to satellite images and applying it to CT scans of the human body. 🔸 What are your main learnings from the last time you worked at Modulai? Being part of a tightly knit team of engineers, all willing to share their knowledge and help each other out, is a really powerful thing! Attending the UC Berkeley AI Hackathon 2024 was an unforgettable experience, bringing together brilliant minds from across the globe. Collaborating with such talented individuals was incredibly inspiring and motivating. One of the most memorable moments was meeting Andrej Karpathy , whose insights and passion for AI left a lasting impression on me. The hackathon itself was exceptionally well-organized by Berkeley SkyDeck and Cal Hacks, providing continuous support and an abundance of delicious food to keep us fueled. The event challenged me to push my limits and explore new frontiers in AI and tech innovation. It was a profound reminder of the endless learning opportunities and the excitement of delving into AI's vast potential. I met many new people and had the chance to share skills and ideas with others who have the same passion and mindset for AI and tech. This exchange of knowledge and collaboration was incredibly enriching and fostered a sense of community and shared purpose.
