Reinforced Concrete Column Buckling-Effective Length. The effective height (le) of a column is calculated by multiplying its clear distance between supports (lateral restraints) by a coefficient (β) that reflects the fixity at its ends, as shown in Table. End condition 1 signifies that the column end is fully restrained.
