🌿 Biodegradable vs. Compostable: What’s the Difference? 🌿 The terms "biodegradable" and "compostable" both refer to materials that break down over time, but there are some key differences between them: Biodegradable refers to a material’s ability to eventually degrade over time into smaller components like water, carbon dioxide, and biomass, which may not necessarily be beneficial to the environment. It's often used as a generic term. Compostable refers to a material’s ability to degrade within a short amount of time (under six months) in a composting environment, whether residential or industrial. The key difference is they degrade into non-toxic components and leave no visible or toxic residue. They break down into nutrients that enrich the soil. Friendly reminder: Not all biodegradable material is compostable. Understanding these terms helps us make better eco-friendly choices! 🌍✨ #Sustainability #EcoFriendly #Biodegradable #Compostable #NatureFlex #Futamura #GreenLiving #GoGreen #EnvironmentalImpact

More than just compost: Regions transitioning to a bioeconomy are searching for innovative ways to manage urban biowaste. 💡 HOOP Project has evaluated 25 technologies that transform organic waste and wastewater sludge into high-value products. The assessment highlights enabling factors, challenges, current or potential commercial status, and their compatibility with traditional urban biowaste treatment methods. The results were published in the article "Innovative Circular Biowaste Valorisation—State of the Art and Guidance for Cities and Regions" in the journal Sustainability @MDPI. Read the publication: https://lnkd.in/dpVP-cEZ For regions ready to innovate, these findings offer a roadmap to turn waste into opportunity. #biowaste #organicwaste #biowastevalorization #biowastemanagement #Sustainability #Bioeconomy #RegionalInnovation #CircularEconomy

STUDY: An economic perspective of the circular bioeconomy in the food and #agricultural sector "Transforming the #agrifood system from a “take-make-waste”, or linear production system, to a circular #bioeconomy that reduces, recycles, recovers, reuses, and regenerates wastes and transitions from fossil to #biobased fuels and products is being hailed as critical for meeting a growing population’s food and fuel needs in environmentally sustainable ways. While a transformation towards a circular bioeconomy is an appealing strategy to achieve multiple #environmental goals, we argue that this strategy needs to go beyond a techno-centric focus and adopt an economic value-based lens to balance the desire for circularity with its costs, benefits, and distributional effects on society. This perspective analyzes the mechanisms that sustain the existing linear economy and proposes a novel social cost-benefit framework to determine the optimal level and path to circularity. We present five critical pathways to achieve a sustainable circular bioeconomy in a market economy consisting of decentralized decision-makers." Read more: https://lnkd.in/g88QJf5R

Three things I take home from #London after attending the National Food Waste Conference: 👉 Sartori Ambiente's long term partner Peter Ridley Waste Systems has everything it takes to best support municipalities that have not yet activated the separate collection of #organicwaste, Miranda Peck and Rachael Fisk (female-powered team) are absolutely on point, well done!! ♻ 👉 If all goes according to plan there will be additional 2M Ton of organic waste arriving at existing or new built treatment plants. Jenny Grant from The Association for Renewable Energy and Clean Technology has been clear, it will be very important to prevent contamination within this collection stream. if this happens Pietro Fiorentini's experience and technology may be decisive for making then the most of #biogas into #biomethane, whether it is injected into the network, liquefied to be transported or, even better, used to fuel the #collectionvehicles themselves. 🚛 👉 #AI can also be used to create stunning images engaging the audience, a truly brilliant and interesting experience brought by Grant Keenan, director of Keenan Recycling Ltd. We are both totally addicted to the circular economy and in particular on the role of organic waste... is it ever possible? 🌿
