Self-Awareness - Why this career enabler matters more than ever! Self-Awareness may be a fashionable 'buzz word' in business, but for a very good reason. It's a critical skill for your career success, and also your personal life too! Here are 3️⃣ reasons why self-awareness should be your next focus: 👉 Firstly, a lack of self-awareness can derail your career. According to Tasha Eurich, New York Times best-selling author, senior executives who lack self-awareness are over 600% more likely to derail, impacting their performance AND team dynamics! This staggering statistic highlights the importance of understanding our strengths, weaknesses, and how we're perceived by others. 👉 Secondly, self-awareness is closely linked with confidence, which is one of the four pillars of the 4C's mental toughness framework. Those with high self-awareness tend to have a more realistic view of their abilities, leading to authentic confidence. This self-assurance allows you to tackle challenges head-on and bounce back from setbacks more effectively. 👉 Lastly, improving self-awareness can significantly enhance your communication skills. When you understand your own emotions and reactions, you're better equipped to empathize with others and navigate complex interpersonal situations. This emotional intelligence is invaluable in leadership roles and team collaborations. So now you know WHY it's important, HOW can you take your first step towards greater self-awareness? Seek honest feedback from a trusted colleague, friend or mentor about your strengths and areas for improvement! Reflect on this feedback, and identify one specific area you can work on for the next month. The journey to self-awareness is ongoing, but the rewards are immeasurable ⭐ #SelfAwareness #PersonalDevelopment #ProfessionalDevelopment #MentalToughness #Confidence

🌟 **Growth through Insight: The Power of Adaptability and Connections**🌟 In my current professional journey, two quotes have deeply resonated with me and helped shape my growth: 1️ 🌟 *"There may be times when you have to put on that mask… make sure that you're being the person that your team needs at that time."* – **Ki Yan Baldwin** 2️ 🌟 *"Who you know is really valuable."* – **Jacqui Munro** As I am an analytical thinker and introvert by nature, professionally needing to step into roles where I need to be more extroverted or play a different part for the benefit of my team has been a challenge. Ki Yan Baldwin’s words brought to light for me that leadership and teamwork often requires us to step outside our comfort zone. Through putting on the ‘Mask’ to support my team, isn’t about being inauthentic, but rather adapting to what is needed in the moment and being able to step up. This has pushed me to develop my communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills, to ensure I show up for my need, especially in high-pressure situations. Similarly, Jacqui Munro’s insights about the value of networking and forming connections has challenged my approach towards networking. I’ve learned that building relationships and understanding the value of “who you know” is a key aspect to developing and navigating my professional career. Especially within my current career development, as gaining a large network of professionals can help me get my foot in the door to not only kick start my career but gain valuable insights. Through strengthening my communication skills and opening my network, I not only have expanded my opportunities but also have enhanced my ability to collaborate and grow. These insights have been a game-changer, allowing me to become more adaptable and connected, which are essential qualities within today’s fast-paced work environment. 💡 💡 #MqBcomCapstone #everyonesayWOW #ProfessionalGrowth #Adaptability #Networking #EmployabilitySkills #Leadership #Teamwork #InterpersonalSkills

Most of us hit a point in our careers where the emphasis we’ve placed on accomplishing goals doesn’t return the same rewards. We’ve crossed an invisible line, and we usually don’t know it until there are repercussions. What can you do to set yourself up for success? Be intentional. Aim for projects that are revenue-generating or strategic, such as those that will increase the efficiency and output of your organization. Avoid purely social ones (like the office party) or those that lack the necessary sponsorship to get off the ground. Start forming your diplomatic “no” skills early. Just because you may be more junior in seniority does not mean you need to take on everything that comes your way. If it’s clear to management that you attract followership among your colleagues and achieve results through others, the next time a promotion opens up, they’re likely to bet on you.

I have lost count of the number of times I have heard frustrated rants about managers not giving due credit for work done, not showcasing and highlighting a team member's work, or better still, not actively driving one's career. However, a lesson I learned in life is that you can't give complete control of your career to someone else and expect them to do right by you. It will only lead to frustration and missed opportunities. Research by the 𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘷𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘉𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘙𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸 reveals that employees who actively manage their careers, seek feedback, and proactively showcase their achievements are significantly more likely to advance. They are seen as self-starters, capable of driving their own success. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁? 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: Advocate for yourself to receive promotions and recognition. Don't wait for your hard work to be noticed – make it visible! 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱: Craft a personal brand that highlights your value differentiation. This not only showcases your work but also builds your professional reputation. 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆: Use feedback as a tool for continuous improvement and growth. 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆: Expanding your network can open doors to new opportunities. Remember, your career is your responsibility. Managers can support and guide, but it's up to you to steer the ship. What strategies have you found effective in taking control of your career? #CareerGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment #SelfAdvocacy #PersonalBranding #Success

Have you been hitting every target, exceeding every expectation, but still find yourself passed over for promotions? The promotion trap is real, and it’s not your fault.
