Director donnie l. betts is approaching RESISTING with an unwavering commitment to truth-telling and giving voice to those who have been unseen and oppressed. With a deep understanding of the impact of over-policing as a Black male artist, betts sees this film as an extension of his lifelong dedication to sharing authentic stories that are often overlooked or silenced. In the spirit of accountability, the film ensures the voices of the protagonists and impacted communities are respected and accurately represented. Ultimately, RESISTING aspires to create a transformative and healing experience for audiences. By courageously exposing the failures of the system and inspiring collective action, the documentary aims to contribute to policy change, raise awareness, and foster empathy and understanding. It seeks to ignite a revolution of the human heart, leading to a more just and equitable society, liberated from the grip of over-policing. RESISTING stands as a testament to the power of storytelling and the potential of film to challenge societal norms and catalyze meaningful change. With wide-reaching free and trusted accessibility, public media paired with a planned robust impact campaign would be the perfect home for this film to galvanize audiences. The question is What does or can the future of policing look like?

Look Before You Leap I am making steps towards new places and new opportunities and find that I need to consider, is it something that is in alignment with my life values/goals? Is it something better? Is it helping someone? Or is it something that only feels comfortable because it fits in with limiting beliefs that no longer serve me? Things to ponder before leaping. May imperialist empires fall and may humanity move towards more loving, respectful and equitable systems of existence. Every interaction with a living being is an opportunity to positively affect the world. Every moment, every day.

I am challenged by the continuing assault on artists for the views they express in their work. In the case of comedians, such as Rob Schneider, the art is comedy and its performance. I understand that some people are offended, but as Rowan Atkinson of "Mr. Bean" fame said, "free speech without the right to offend is not free speech at all." People have the right to not like an artist's work. They have the right, as people did in this case, walk out of the performance. But forcing the hospital to apologize for booking the artist is a step too far - in my opinion. Instead, performances such as these are best used - if you are offended - as stages for public debate, not a demand for apologies or cancellations. We will be all better for it. Let's not focus on wars of culture, but rather identify problems and discuss solutions. Good art raises these questions - which is what Mr. Schneider did. https://lnkd.in/dKKUxebr
