Oxsilan® Technology from Chemetall The Oxsilan technology is an environmentally friendly, multi-metal, pretreatment process. The technology is based on silanes that form aqueous solutions, and through hydrolysis and condensation, polysiloxanes. During the coating process, the reactive silanol groups can be chemically bonded to the metal as well as to the paint coating. Heat treatment following eletrocoating further cross-links the polysiloxanes. This creates layers in the range of 100 nm. In combination with many paint systems, this is already sufficient to achieve the same degree of corrosion protection as with the ten times thicker zinc-phosphating layers, thereby reducing materials consumption and pre-treatment times and increasing productivity. Efficiency improvements of up to 65% have been realized in practical applications. This state-of-the-art alternative has become much more common in a variety of industries over the last several years. Je sortenreiner und besser sortiert die Schrottqualität, umso höher der Yield und umso niedriger der benötigte Energiebedarf. Steel production from precisely pre-sorted scrap requires significantly less energy and also generates less CO2 than steel production from iron ore and alloy metals. The better the quality of the scrap, the better and more environmentally friendly the steel produced from it. This is an important prerequisite for the production of green steel. Our Swiss Steel Group plant in Switzerland is working with scrap suppliers and several universities on a system that will create a digital twin of incoming scrap. It is a "big data" project that enables the steelworks to recognize in advance what type of scrap will be delivered. This will make delivery, production and, above all, the quality of the steel more efficient and effective.
