The government has approved an energy development plan required to join the EU. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) for the period until 2030. The plan coordinates environmental, energy, and economic policies for Ukraine's sustainable development. The document was developed under the requirements of EU regulations and considering the best practices of EU member states, within the framework of obligations as a contracting party of the energy community and in the process of acquiring EU membership. Implementation of the plan will require at least $41.5B and not only contribute to the economy's decarbonization but will also open significant opportunities for attracting resources to implement the plan, said Minister of Economy Yuliya Svyridenko. Among the plan's main objectives: ● reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 65% against 1990's level ● achieving a 27% share of renewable energy sources in the total energy consumption ● deepening the diversification of sources and ways of supplying energy resources - no more than 30% from one supplier ● primary energy consumption is no more than 72.2 million tons of oil equivalent, and final consumption of 42.17 million tons. https://lnkd.in/dE3epMr6
