When I relocated with my dog from Virginia Beach to Los Angeles in 2021, I had a million tabs open and felt overwhelmed by outdated blog posts when trying to find reliable information on airline pet policies. That's why I decided to create something I wish I had: a handy chart with direct links to each US commercial airline's pet policies. https://lnkd.in/gae7if3g Here's why I chose to use direct links to the pet policy websites rather than listing the actual policies on my website: 🔗 Accuracy: Direct links to pet policy websites ensure the information is always up-to-date. Airlines often update their pet policies, and having direct links to the official pet policy websites creates a reliable source 📊 Organization: The chart is organized and easy to use, making it simple for anyone planning to travel with their pets on US-based airlines to quickly find pet policy websites Have you flown with your pet on any of the airlines listed in the chart?

Know your pet policy in Delta Airlines Delta Airlines allows you to bring pets on their flights. Small pets like dogs, cats, and household birds can travel in the cabin with you, provided they are in an approved pet carrier that fits under the seat. Larger pets can be transported in the cargo hold. There are specific guidelines and fees for bringing pets, so it's important to check Delta's pet policy before your trip. Service animals are permitted to fly in the cabin at no extra charge, following certain regulations. ✈️✈️✈️ TRAVELING WITH DOG ✈️✈️✈️ ✈️ American Airlines Just Made It Easier for You to Travel With Your Pet ✈️ American Airlines has a new pet policy In the past, people who brought pets along on flights could only bring one small personal item aboard, which had to fit under their seat. A larger carry-on bag — like the ones that typically go in the overhead compartment — would need to be checked, which was an additional $35. Basically, their pet counted as their carry-on. But now, passengers can bring a pet onto the flight and choose between bringing a carry-on bag or a personal item. Passengers still have to pay the pet fee, which is $150. According to the American Kennel Club, most airlines still count pets as carry-ons. So, while there’s still a pet fee on American Airlines, this new policy could reduce costs for pet parents who need that extra suitcase space. Traveling with pets There are a few things to keep in mind before heading off for a pet-filled vacation. Every airline is different, so be sure to review the specific restrictions and fees on your flight before heading to the airport. Alaska, Delta, and Southwest are a few other airlines that allow pets — but they each have their own rules. Most airlines limit how many pets you can bring aboard; for American Airlines flights, only two pets who fit in the same carrier can join you. For people with service dogs, including psychiatric service dogs (dogs trained to perform specific tasks related to their handlers’ physical and/or psychiatric needs), flying with a pup shouldn’t be a problem. According to the United States Department of Transportation, airlines are required to accept service dogs on board with no additional cost for flights within the U.S. Unfortunately, the same isn’t true for emotional support animals, which don’t require special training; airlines can refuse them or charge fees for their flights. Whatever airline you’re flying, you’re going to want to find your pet an airline compliant carrier and bring along your pet’s vaccination records. And seriously, pack some extra treats. It can’t hurt.

Researching how to best fly with a pet can be overwhelming with each airline having different size requirements for their pet carrier spaces. Add on the marketing taglines and carrier guarantee programs and pet-potty spots... well, there's a lot more consider than what first meets the eye! First, find a carrier that works for most airlines. If you get on most pet sites and read their headlines, some of them suggest that they are "airline approved". How can this be if every airline is different? How can an airline even stick to their own requirements if they fly different sized planes for different routes? If you read the fine print, one of the carriers even has contracted with an outside firm where you go online and put in your information to generate a guaranteed boarding certificate. I can't tell if that is hype or not and in today's world, why risk registering with a group that probably at some point will just sell your data to a willing buyer once you generate the certificate....?! Second, a visit to the airport might be needed if you are concerned about carrier acceptance and procedures. I was fortunate enough to meet up with a United Airlines agent at the terminal check-in during a slow time. She also was a gate agent for Breeze Airways that evening. I had 2 pet carriers in hand and chatted with her about requirements. She had a backpack that was a similar width size and said she had seen one of the carriers on many flights. Luckily it was the one MILO liked best - aka: he actually wanted to climb in it whereas the other he wasn't the least bit curious! Here was my choice: https://lnkd.in/eVhDGjUE. Third, I wondered about weight. Pugs aren't known for being skinny and some airlines have a 20 lb. limit and others have a 25 lb. limit. I wasn't asked about weigh at all - - but did have to carry the dog through the TSA scanner. Then, there is usually a pet fee and these can vary significantly on each airline. Delta's was $90 per flight ($200 for international). American's was $150 per way. Breeze's was $75 per way. This can add up. Last but not least - be sure to check connection flights in airports for Pet Relief Areas! For most airports, the pet must be designated a SERVICE ANIMAL to be able to use the pet relief area. WHAT?! Yep, regular dogs must hold it! Of course, it's easier than even to register your pet as a service animal. It's $89.95 - https://lnkd.in/enCHWXte - and is good for the lifetime of the animal. Since Atlanta is a popular connection for the City of Huntsville, Alabama - here are places for those pet relief areas: T7, A10, B33, C17, E15, F7 as well as D-Centerpoint. All in all, having my pup in the cabin with me was a great experience. I just wish I'd have had someone who had flown with a pug before tell me all of the details. So, I'm sharing with my LINKEDIN crowd! Good Luck and Happy Travels! www.invresource.com

Bark Launches Exclusive Dog Airline Service For a significant chunk of change, you can now travel with your pet in VIP luxury. I had numerous experiences during my working days, particularly on airplanes. I prefer flights that don't allow animals in the cabin. I observed the treatment of animals by pet owners and flight staff. On a flight, I saw a passenger with a dog who was allowed to take it out of its cage, and everyone, including the flight attendants, petted it. Without washing their hands, they proceeded to serve the meal on the flight. Getting your dog on a commercial flight has become increasingly challenging, making a new luxurious pet charter service appealing to some owners. BARK, a company known for selling dog products, has recently introduced BARK Air, an air travel service exclusively for dogs. As reported by CBS, the company declared the service last month and is set to inaugurate its initial flight. Pet owners can now travel with their pets to various destinations, but it comes at a high cost. By partnering with Talon Air, a private jet chartering company, the company ensures a luxurious experience for dogs, akin to a human's first-class treatment. BARK Air's website includes a side-splitting video that combines elements of an SNL skit and a David Lynch short, aiming to highlight the alleged advantages of their service. In one scene of the video, a stewardess on a BARK-chartered flight serves tennis shoes to a confused-looking dog on a silver platter. The extent of pampering on BARK flights remains uncertain for now. Unfortunately, the prices for this exclusive pet service will probably be too high for most people. Currently, you can expect to pay a minimum of $6,000 for a one-way ticket for a dog and human duo. The service seems to have a rather restricted selection of locations available. There are four destinations to choose from: London, Los Angeles, New York, and Paris. Unfortunately, that's not a great outcome. My pets will stay at home where they'll be more at ease.

The first-ever dog-focused jet charter firm in the world is here. The well-known dog toy firm BARK intends to launch BARK Air, a new airline in the US that will serve only dogs and their owners. They also have strong reasons to place a large wager on pet travel. Travelling with your pets in the cargo hold of a commercial aircraft can be unsettling because canines are frequently transported to incorrect locations or mishandled at airports. According to BARK, it is logical to operate an airline where "dogs fly first." Dogs will travel stress-free and receive pampering on board, including goodies, an in-flight play area, and chicken broth dressed up in champagne bottles. Now, if you love dogs, you probably think this is a really good idea. Is it, however, a truly brilliant business idea? Well, Pet Airways® did something similar in 2007. It operated a fleet of domestic aircraft that allowed pets, but after suffering financial setbacks, it shut down after four years. Yes, you could argue that it happened more than ten years ago. and that with time, the market has evolved. Today, almost 65 million US homes have pets, an increase of 70% from the days of Pet Airways®. Presently, over 40% of passengers opt to travel with their dogs on flights. Additionally, BARK Airways can reach out to its current clientele, which consists of 2.3 million active monthly users of BarkBox, a subscription service for dog treats. But we won't know if it's sufficient to manage a successful and long-lasting company until BARK Airways actually takes flight.
