Land is essential for life on Earth. Farmlands, forests, grasslands, savannahs, peatlands, and mountains all provide the resources and services that support humanity. However, ecosystems are facing significant threats. If issues like land degradation aren't addressed, global food production could drop by 12%, leading to a 30% increase in food prices by 2040. Ahead of June’s #WorldEnvironmentDay, use this practical guide for ideas on how to take #GenerationRestoration action to restore land, stop desertification, and build resilience against drought. https://lnkd.in/eUm-cc7A

🌍 Today is #WorldEnvironmentDay and the focus is on restoring land to prevent desertification and drought, both of which severely impact the health of ecosystems. 💡Click below to download this informative guide. It leads us through the issues and what can be done at various levels to #makeadifference. ❓️Did you know that: • Soil is critical for the number of organism that call it home (almost 60% of all species) and for the large amounts of carbon it can store when it's healthy. • Having trees in urban areas reduces the air temperature by up to 5°C which reduces air conditioning needs. •Soil is eroding much faster than it is being created. We lose the equivalent of one football pitch of soil every five seconds. Yet, it takes 1,000 years to produce 3 centimetres (just over one inch) of topsoil. #FactsConnectionAction #TheCarbonAlmanac

Today’s World Environment Day focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience under the slogan “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.” Established by the UN in 1972, the day has grown to become one of the largest platforms for environmental outreach. Up to 40 per cent of the planet’s land is degraded, directly affecting half of the world’s population and threatening roughly half of global GDP. The number and duration of droughts has increased by 29 per cent since 2000 – without urgent action, droughts may affect over three-quarters of the world's population by 2050. At RAA we are passionate about sustainability and the environment and regularly take part in activities to tackle the climate change crisis. How are you or your business championing environmental causes and do you think we are doing enough? #ForNature #WorldEnvironmentDay #GenerationRestoration #ourplanet #rskfamily The #WorldEnvironmentDay Practical Guide is NOW available. Designed to help get everyone involved in ecosystem restoration, the guide covers various subjects like food systems, freshwater ecosystems, human habitats, and how businesses, governments and everyday citizens can contribute to #GenerationRestoration. Today, we join millions across the globe in celebrating World Environment Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness and taking action for our planet. This year’s campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. Did you know (I sure didn’t!) that every five seconds, the equivalent of one football pitch of soil is eroded yet it takes 1,000 years to generate 3 centimeters of topsoil? Or that the world will need to raise its food production by 60–70 per cent to feed a projected human population of 9 billion by 2050? Check out more fun facts and keep the learning and conversation going! https://lnkd.in/gjDemgZJ #worldenvironmentday #sustainability #UNSDGs #GenerationRestoration
