I'm thrilled to share some exciting advancements in fire investigation technology that I've been experimenting with recently. I've been working on a project using LiDAR scanning to capture fire scenes, and the results have been nothing short of revolutionary. There's much more work to be done, but seeing the potential for this technology has been really cool.
LiDAR📡(Light Detection and Ranging) uses laser pulses to create precise, three-dimensional representations of environments. This cutting-edge technology is the future for documenting fire scenes with incredible detail and accuracy. This technology has made it's way into cell phones and tablets recently, so it's available without being prohibitively expensive.
LiDAR + Virtual Reality = Game Changer 🎮🔥 Combining LiDAR scans with a Virtual Reality (VR) Headset I can immerse myself in a 3D Virtual representation of the fire scene, examining fire patterns, fire effects, structural damage, and potential points of origin in a realistic and interactive environment.
Training and Collaboration: 📋The VR environments created from LiDAR scans are fantastic for training new investigators, allowing them to learn from real-life scenarios. Additionally, you can collaborate with experts from around the world, virtually "walking through" the scene together to gather insights. (Like...you're actually standing together in the virtual room, at the same time. It's crazy)
Legal and Insurance Processes: ⚖️ Detailed 3D models of fire scenes are incredibly valuable in legal contexts and for insurance claims, offering clear, visual evidence that supports our findings as investigators.
I'm excited to see how these innovations will further evolve and shape the future of the fire investigation field. 🔎🔥
