Colleagues across HHS, CMS and beyond have worked tirelessly to make the promise of drug price negotiation in Medicare a reality, and today is a major milestone in that pursuit. Americans of all stripes have agreed for years that we shouldn't be paying more than other countries for the same prescription drugs. Because of President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act--and Vice President Harris's tiebreaking vote to pass it--American taxpayers are expected to save $6 billion on prescription drug costs, and people enrolled in Medicare are expected to save $1.5 billion in out-of-pocket costs in 2026 alone. Years of work, paying off for millions of Americans. HHS release: https://lnkd.in/d2jjBDNq White House fact sheet: https://lnkd.in/dk5g6z_3

There are so many effects of the Inflation Reduction Act that many have not yet considered, and I find it surprising that there is so little in the general press. How can patients be expected to understand what's happening and how it could impact them? This article highlights how people with Medicare prescription drug plans would have seen an increase in their premiums, had the government not implemented a new program to stabilize rates. #IRA #Medicare #healthcare

This is great news and as a Community Health Worker, Health Promoter, non clinical but understanding my responsibility to help improve the health of my community, more than one person at a time but if even one by one, I am committed to continue educating individuals, explaining in plain language the importance of changes in our daily lifestyle, adherence not only to medication but also to changes under the guidance of medical professionals to reduce or never have to be in need of any of these prescriptions. I am not trying to put any one out of business, just trying to minimize we seeking the quick solution, a pill, a vile, a syrup when we could begin with advocating for self, partnering with the professionals, participate in community education, attend focus groups, listening sessions, health seminars. Seeking the support of family, community, and God to strengthen our will power are steps we can begin to take that will leap us into health. It is not easy, but not impossible to avoid many of the choices which in time, create the avalanche of health challenges we experience to then be in need of prescription drugs to help manage the condition(s). Let’s do this together by rethinking what we choose to eat, what we choose not to do because it is inconvenient, however understanding and with the vision of the price we pay today, sacrificing our flesh, will be rewarded as we grow older because time/age will hand us a high bill, with no option to make down payment that “health” bill. If even one today I speak to, I plead with you to make chances and along the way you will be helping someone make health chances and everyone will benefit. Seek help and learn to advocate for the services that will become guardrails to ensure we stay on track; there are in the community, there are free, there are part of our health coverage regardless of it been government or privately funded. Help us help you in this walk to healthy living, choose to see today what our future could become tomorrow if we don’t stop and rethink it. Minimizing some known health challenges is possible, just commit to live a healthy life; start by walking every day if even your neighborhood or a nearby park, choose to drink water instead of sugary drinks, eat healthier and minimize your eat out/take out, that last one will save us also money, practice positive thinking, and know every problem has a solution. Stay blessed and healthy!
