"At the Center for Sustainable Infrastructure, we believe in building a future where sustainability goals can also drive economic growth, innovation, rural opportunity and prosperity. The transition to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is a prime example of how we can turn today’s environmental challenges into tomorrow’s economic opportunities. That’s why it’s important to commend Rep. Suzan DelBene, D-Wash., for her leadership as a founding member of the Congressional Sustainable Aviation Caucus. SAF is a game-changer that represents a shift toward a circular economy where waste products like agricultural residues and renewable energy are transformed into jet fuel, powering both our planes and our economy. And here in Washington, we’re already seeing this future take shape. Nationwide, the SAF transition could result in nearly $800 billion in capital investments and support as many as 400,000 jobs. Rep. DelBene’s commitment to sustainable aviation reflects the kind of forward-thinking leadership we need to tackle the climate crisis while creating economic opportunities that benefit everyone. By advancing SAF, we can unlock new markets, create quality jobs, position Washington as a global leader in the next wave of clean energy innovation, and support the aviation industry, including general aviation, in their ambitious goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Sustainability has to work for the market and for our communities. Rep. DelBene’s efforts in sustainable aviation are leading the way, ensuring that Washington remains at the forefront of building a sustainable, resilient economy for all." UN Makes Big Strides Towards Sustainable Transport! Great news for our planet! The UN's Inland Transport Committee (ITC) just adopted a game-changing strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from inland transport Why is this important? Transport is a major contributor to climate change, responsible for 23% of annual GHG emissions, Inland transport, mostly from cars, makes up a whopping 72% of that total What's the plan? The strategy aims for net-zero emissions by 2050 through: - Shifting to electric vehicles & cleaner fuels ⚡️ - Improving infrastructure & operations ️ - Investing in research & development How will it be implemented? The ITC will create a Climate Action Plan with specific milestones ️ This includes developing tools to measure the carbon footprint of vehicles and promote sustainable mobility solutions. What can you do? Join the conversation! Attend the Advancing Decarbonization Summit and connect with leading experts and innovators working towards a sustainable future. Learn about the latest advancements in decarbonization in the construction space, including transportation (you can find out more here: https://lnkd.in/g7KJqQaU) #climateaction #sustainabletransport #UN #ITC #electricvehicles #greenfuture

Today, the Department of Transport launched "Moving Together – A Strategic Approach to the Improved Efficiency of the Transport System in Ireland" which is a commitment in the Climate Action Plan 2023 (CAP23). This strategy was developed to support a more efficient transport system and to alleviate the impacts of car-dependency and congestion on the economy, the environment and our health. It provides a series of options to encourage an urban-first approach to decarbonising the transport sector and to transform the car-centric model. As Eamon Ryan advises “Congestion is not working for anyone. It’s not working for car users. It’s not working for people reliant on public transport. It’s not working for people who want to walk or cycle. It’s not working for the environment” and as such we need to re-imagine and re-allocate space to a more anthropocentric design, placing people at the top of the hierarchy. It’s great to see DCC’s Kerbside Management Project feature as a Case Study. Our division recognises the significance of efficient kerbside management, noting the increased demands placed upon it, and has worked in collaboration with Smart Dublin with this objective in mind. It was also the subject of my dissertation, ‘Can digital kerbside management improve sustainability in cities by eliminating disorder from the kerbside?’ The consultation process is set to go live in April, so in advance of this, the draft Strategy and Implementation Plan can be accessed on the Department of Transport’s website here: https://lnkd.in/exkQy4cp Have your say! #demandmanagement #kerbsidemanagement #sustainablemobility #CAP23

How can the transport sector reduce emissions and reach net zero? 🚆🚋🚍 Tourism and Transport Forum Australia have provided a submission to the Federal Government's 'Transport and Infrastructure Net Zero Consultation Roadmap', which sets out the long-term strategy for the Australian Transport Industry to decarbonise. TTF has long advocated for the creation of a clear pathway and plan for the transport sector to decarbonise and welcomes the Commonwealth Government’s pathway. Our submission builds off the 2023 report developed in partnership with L.E.K. Consulting, The Road to Net Zero: Decarbonisation of the Surface Transport Sector. TTF has made the following policy recommendations in the submission: 🔸 Greater coordination between the Commonwealth and state governments 🔸Recognising the critical role of both government and industry in decarbonisation 🔸 Taking a leadership position on the development of alternative fuels 🔸Deepening the strategy for mode shift as a key decarbonisation lever 🔸Putting more emphasis on training and skills required to support the transition 🔸Balancing local manufacturing aspirations with the need for speed and economic efficiency 🔸Recognising the role that emerging technologies will play in decarbonisation 🔸Using incentives and removing disincentives to accelerate the transition 🔸Taking action on standards and design rules that are hampering decarbonisation efforts 🔸More clearly recognising the potential complementary between modes 🔸Deepening the strategy on measurement of decarbonisation 👉 Read our the full submission here https://lnkd.in/eUtwP6ag Catherine King MP, Chris Bowen MP, Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, L.E.K. Addressing the invisible carbon gap is post 10 of 31 to try and brighten your August summer lull by sharing the fabulous projects that Mott MacDonald are involved in. Net zero is now widely integrated within government and corporate sustainability agendas. But when nature is missing from the baseline used to set net zero targets, neither the losses in carbon storage resulting from damage to the natural environment or the emission reductions are captured, creating an invisible carbon gap. In the latest publication from the Net-Zero Infrastructure Industry Coalition (NZIIC), written as a result of a workstream led by Mott MacDonald, “Nature: the missing piece of the net zero puzzle” highlights how the carbon sequestration potential of nature can be used to set a net zero baseline, and to assess whole life carbon within construction. The NZIIC regularly publishes reports and high-quality guidance on key aspects of achieving net zero. If you would like to access any of the publications and find out more about the work of the coalition, visit https://mottm.ac/3Lj6tDs

Canada…decadent…outdated… https://lnkd.in/ezZ2vNKj “”…Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria play an important role in helping companies and industries become more sustainable. Globally, and across industries, a major part of ESG growth has been driven by the environmental component of ESG and responses to climate change. But other components of ESG, in particular the social dimension, have also been gaining prominence—and ESG considerations are becoming more important in companies’ decision making…””
