Today, the Department of Transport launched "Moving Together – A Strategic Approach to the Improved Efficiency of the Transport System in Ireland" which is a commitment in the Climate Action Plan 2023 (CAP23). This strategy was developed to support a more efficient transport system and to alleviate the impacts of car-dependency and congestion on the economy, the environment and our health. It provides a series of options to encourage an urban-first approach to decarbonising the transport sector and to transform the car-centric model. As Eamon Ryan advises “Congestion is not working for anyone. It’s not working for car users. It’s not working for people reliant on public transport. It’s not working for people who want to walk or cycle. It’s not working for the environment” and as such we need to re-imagine and re-allocate space to a more anthropocentric design, placing people at the top of the hierarchy. It’s great to see DCC’s Kerbside Management Project feature as a Case Study. Our division recognises the significance of efficient kerbside management, noting the increased demands placed upon it, and has worked in collaboration with Smart Dublin with this objective in mind. How can the transport sector reduce emissions and reach net zero? 🚆🚋🚍   Tourism and Transport Forum Australia have provided a submission to the Federal Government's 'Transport and Infrastructure Net Zero Consultation Roadmap', which sets out the long-term strategy for the Australian Transport Industry to decarbonise. TTF has long advocated for the creation of a clear pathway and plan for the transport sector to decarbonise and welcomes the Commonwealth Government’s pathway. Our submission builds off the 2023 report developed in partnership with L.E.K. Consulting, The Road to Net Zero: Decarbonisation of the Surface Transport Sector. Addressing the invisible carbon gap is post 10 of 31 to try and brighten your August summer lull by sharing the fabulous projects that Mott MacDonald are involved in. Net zero is now widely integrated within government and corporate sustainability agendas. But when nature is missing from the baseline used to set net zero targets, neither the losses in carbon storage resulting from damage to the natural environment or the emission reductions are captured, creating an invisible carbon gap.  In the latest publication from the Net-Zero Infrastructure Industry Coalition (NZIIC), written as a result of a workstream led by Mott MacDonald, “Nature: the missing piece of the net zero puzzle” highlights how the carbon sequestration potential of nature can be used to set a net zero baseline, and to assess whole life carbon within construction.  The NZIIC regularly publishes reports and high-quality guidance on key aspects of achieving net zero.
