Just received my son’s Naplan results, and it got me thinking about the importance of accepting our imperfections. My boy performed well in all areas, placing in the top band (exceeding) for numeracy, reading, writing, and conventions of language. His writing score is also in the top band, but not in the top triangle, which I believe represents the top 1% or 2%. This reminded me that none of us is perfect. We all have areas where we can improve. It’s essential to recognize our imperfections, be humble about our strengths and weaknesses, and keep pushing ourselves to grow. In the same way, my expectations are not high; I’m not expecting him to be at the top in everything. What matters most is his effort and continuous improvement. This lesson applies to all of us, whether in school, at work, or in our personal lives. We should accept our own and others’ imperfections, be empathetic, and strive for continuous improvement rather than perfection.

What does your name mean? Ashok: without sorrow Bhattacharya: learned teacher I’m a melancholic optimist, so I’m not sure about the sorrow part. I love teaching, but I feel like I’m a student. I’m always learning. #Empathy recognizes that you don’t really know…so find out. Empathy asks, listens, and reflects. I will never know everything. Wisdom is knowing what you don’t know then turning that ignorance into understanding. Our brains get ‘old’ when we stop learning. As long as I’m learning and practicing, I feel less sorrow.

What a beautiful message to learn from Albert Einstein 🙏 Definitely something to ponder upon. No one is perfect and mistakes help you learn. When you walk into a classroom remember to leave space for the students to make mistakes and help them learn from them. Let them be comfortable and provide them with opportunities. Not always does the destination count, it’s mostly about the journey. #journeyofexcellence #mistakes #learning #students #confidence #lessons #alberteinstein #rectify #erroranalysis #teacher #teachingmoments #classroom #growth

If I could sum up what I learned so far it’s this— Some people teach for the sheer thrill of making you believe they have power and ability over you. Never mind that. And never mind them. This structure is not only contrived but total bullshit. You are beneath no one. And crucial to recognizing and dismantling this system: No one is beneath you. The teachers who are students, who learn from their students, admit they make mistakes and don’t actually know, who build you up while humbling you, who encourage you, while continuing to reflect on their selves, changing and growing all while nurturing the best in you and everyone: Those are your people. Go re/un/and learn with them.
