As a lifelong #learner, and admirer of their work, I was thrilled to be asked by ALNAP to contribute to their #WithLearningComesChange initiative, which kicked off so smartly with that "extra day" on 29th February this year to encourage people to set aside time to learn (a new habit hopefully). #Philanthropy has a unique role to play in enabling new and #innovative practices to take hold within the broader #aid #ecosystem. We can take bigger risks. With #risk comes a chance of failure, but also an #opportunity to #learn new and innovative ways of doing things. There are so many solutions out there and tried and tested and proven approaches that support efforts to #localizeaid and #decolonize aid - some examples I cite in my blog such as #sclr and #socialenterprise ideas such as the water enterprises being conceptualized and implemented by our partners Adeso or The Wayuu Taya Foundation, both organizations led by powerful women from global majority countries, combining enterprise with feminist programming principles. The main hurdle is in taking these rich learnings and examples of success and scaling them in order to see the #systemschange we all know is needed and required. That will require many of us (especially donors) giving up #power and making way for these new "learnings" to replace or complement and enhance the existing, more "traditional" methods we are all used to. An invitation I extend to all #humanitarian actors, but especially my peer #funders and #donors: "Can we #unlearn old habits that no longer serve us and/or #relearn together?" In the comments section below I'd love to hear what is the most surprising or easy or difficult thing you have had or are having to unlearn. And what recent learning had you sit up and feel "I really shifted in my perspective due to learning" - and what did that look and feel like? #philanthropy #risk = #rewards #localization #decolonization #disruptthesystem
A great new blog has entered the ALNAPsphere this morning, from Alex Gray, CA, head of international funds at the Center for Disaster Philanthropy. It's part of @ALNAP's ongoing #WithLearningComesChange initiative. 'Philanthropy has a unique role to play in enabling new and innovative practices to take hold within the broader aid ecosystem,' Alex writes. 'Philanthropy has a lot more flexibility than governments, bilateral and multilateral donors. We can take bigger risks. With risk comes a chance of failure, but also an opportunity to learn new and innovative ways of doing things.' Read the full blog here: https://lnkd.in/eQ9hPq8q

Your fundraising success depends on how donors see you and how you see them. In this video I explain my standard for donor relations. Why it works best, and why you might want to adopt it for you. 🚨 Introducing our end-of-year fundraiser… We have a world to win: youth at the front of change! bit.ly/24SupportYCFA As we approach 2024’s end, we face uncertainty: a disastrous president-elect amidst escalating imperialist, white supremacist, and ecological crises. But at YCFA, one thing is clear: organizers win through collective action. As a team of young women of color, we equip youth organizers with the tools to lead: organizing skills, political education, and the power of transformative relationships. 🌱 The system of funding social change is broken: ➡️ Only 0.76% of climate grants go to youth-led initiatives. ➡️ BIPOC-led orgs receive 15% less unrestricted funding than their white-led counterparts. But grassroots donors like you can change that 🌟 When you give to YCFA: 🔥 Nearly half our budget funds youth and frontline organizers. 🔥 Demand for our resources has tripled since last year. 🔥 We ensure livable wages for our women of color-led team. Help us raise $7,500 and bring in 125 new donors by year’s end. Together, we’re building the youth movement for grassroots climate justice. ❤️🔥 ➡️ Donate now: bit.ly/24SupportYCFA #Fundraiser #ClimateJustice #GivingTuesday

In response to Glen O'Gilvie, CAE question, my answer is, #backtobasics. Reconnect with donors, pull out a donor list for the last 3 years, craft a script, and start picking up the phone and making calls of thanks and organization updates. A good ole hand written note saying “hi and thank you” and asking for a call only to give an update also. Ask your staff and board to help with calls. It’s an election year which will make fundraising even more challenging. So, do what the politicians are doing and call out the vote ( donations)!
If your organization experienced a decline in the number of donors, what strategies have you implemented to address this trend? https://lnkd.in/e99ctWrR
