To understand the state of the #labor market, we must go beyond traditional measures such as participation or unemployment rates. We must also look at the #quality of jobs, which has important implications for productivity and well-being. The World Bank Poverty and Equity Global Practice's Job Quality Index offers useful insights into different dimensions of job quality and can help to unpack differences in the quality of #jobs held by different sociodemographic groups and across different economic sectors and employment structures. For example, in #Bolivia, between 2007-2021, the quality of jobs has largely remained constant, with values around 0.46 (where 1 indicates higher quality). This value shows minimal changes even during periods of significant economic growth. However, overall number obscure important differences across groups: job quality tends to be lower in rural areas, among women, among young and elderly workers, in the agricultural sector, and for micro and small firms. 🌍📈 Job seeking intensity has surged in the Eurozone this year, outpacing the Americas, with Italy being the only exception. The Netherlands, France, and Germany are leading with an over 8% increase in job seeking. Meanwhile, the US, Mexico, Brazil, and Canada have seen less than a 4% rise. Despite ongoing increases in the Canadian unemployment rate, job seeking intensity in Canada dipped slightly. Participation is only a single measure when it comes to the labor market. Unemployment and employment are also limited. Alternative data and various surveys can provide robust insights into what is actually happening with the labor market and how individuals or households feel about their current jobs, job prospects, or job seeking.

I’m excited to share with you our publication “Main Channels of Job Search in the Beninese Labour Market: The Case of Unemployed Young” in the Indian Journal of Labor Economics. The challenge of reducing unemployment and underemployment is more relevant than ever in all developing countries. To identify the factors contributing to the improvement of the conditions of young people in the labour market, this paper aims to analyse the determinants of job search techniques in the labour market. Based on data from the Integrated Regional Survey on Employment and the Informal Sector conducted in Benin, the estimation results of the multinomial logit model show that very few unemployed workers consider institutional intermediaries as their main job search technique. It is also important to note that work experience, mother’s employment status, education level of the unemployed and the head of household, age, and length of time spent unemployed significantly influence the choice of the main job search technique in Benin. #Mainjobsearchtechnique #Marketprocedures #Institutionalintermediaries #Personalrelationships #Labourmarket #Laboureconomics Find the full text at the link below: https://lnkd.in/eePwNUwp
