Alpha Adventure Safaris contributes to charity activities in several ways: 1. Direct Donations: We donate a portion of our profits or specific tour proceeds to charitable organizations working in the regions we operate. 2. Volunteer Opportunities: Offering volunteer opportunities for tourists to participate in community projects during their tours, such as building schools or environmental conservation efforts. 3. Partnerships: Collaborating with local NGOs or charitable organizations to support their projects through fundraising events, donations, or in-kind contributions. 4. Community Engagement: We engage with local communities to identify their needs and priorities, then supporting them through initiatives such as education, healthcare, or infrastructure development. 5. Promotion and Awareness: Raising awareness about social or environmental issues through our marketing channels and encouraging tourists to contribute or get involved in charitable activities during their travels. 6. Employment and Training: By providing employment opportunities and training programs for members of marginalized communities, empowering them economically and socially. 7. Sustainable Practices: By adopting sustainable tourism practices that minimize negative impacts on local communities and environments, thus indirectly supporting their well-being.

CTRL Matters pledges 10% of profits to charity As the first year in my business is drawing to a close it is time to announce that CTRL Matters will pledge 10% of net profits to charity. The choice of my first employer was to a large extent influenced by the focus on social impact by the company. This is a topic that will also be present in CTRL Matters. As I am driven by efficiency and cost effectiveness, I choose to donate through Giving What We Can. Giving What We Can is an organization that researches the effectiveness of charities and assigns donations based on the amount available and the effectiveness ranking of the charities. Through the All Causes Bundle my donation gets spread over the chosen charities in 3 main areas. · Global Health and Wellbeing · Animal Welfare · Reducing global catastrophic risks (nuclear war, pandemics and AI harms) Please note that if you want to donate to Giving What We Can from Belgium yourself, it is not a tax-deductible charity. I believe the efficiency gains achieved by the researched decision making outweigh the tax benefits. Giving What We Can allows me to have the donation attributed in the most efficient way while making sure I don’t have to do endless research myself. I invite everyone who is interested to read up on how Giving What We Can works here https://lnkd.in/eR7kcweU Given that we live in one of the richest countries in the world, it is also an eye-opener to fill in their “how rich am I” calculator: https://lnkd.in/eZzPXRth So, what is the pledge? The 10% pledge is CTRL Matters as a company making a public statement that it will donate 10% of net profits to (effective) charities. This creates accountability by the community that follows up on the donations. Giving What We Can manages a dashboard in which it tracks the donations from each of the pledges and reports on the impact of the community. So here it goes: "I, Jonas De Cock, recognise that CTRL Matters BV can use part of its profits to do a significant amount of good. I pledge that from 2024, CTRL Matters shall give at least 10% of net profits to whichever organisations can most effectively use it to improve the lives of others, now and in the years to come. I make this pledge freely, openly, and sincerely."

Which water nonprofit is the best? The answer is… Last year I did some more research trying to answer this question. I wanted to find out updated info and/or hidden approaches I might not be aware of. Is it Water.org? I could be biased because I used to work there before. They have a unique proposition of mobilizing finance for WSS. Why not WaterAid? They are one of the longest lasting water nonprofits (founded in 1981). They have one of the largest footprint globally (22 countries). How about Water For People? They work with local stakeholders to build WASH solutions that last for generations. The list goes on. But the truth is “there is no best water nonprofit”. That’s my conclusion. During my research, I read Redundant Charities Book and learned that Splash International plans to shut down the org by 2030 (less than 7 years to go). This goal completely drew my attention to dig further on Splash (although I’ve known them for years). I’m a firm believer that nonprofits shouldn’t be there forever and must have an exist strategy at some point. My main takeaway was I felt very strong that our values aligned. It also reminded me of WaterSHED’s successful story. They closed down their work in Cambodia, after achieving what they were set to do. I’m happy with this discovery and will share what happened next in another post. PS I’m sharing this photo because Eric (Splash CEO)’s photo was the first thing I saw when I flipped the Redundant Charities Book open. Do you think it was a coincidence?

It's time for another #UNSDG and we're up to #SDG3: Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages. This must be one of the most applicable to our work as #landscape professionals, where so much of what we do as a community can hugely benefit the health and wellbeing (both physical and mental) of everyone. Caveat: when designed, delivered and maintained well! So, if you're looking for an SDG to embed into your business strategy, this is an excellent one to choose as much of your work is likely to support it already. A few more ideas: - Donate blood and/or register for organ donation - If you haven't already, adopt organic (chemical-free) practices in your own garden and landscape specifications and/or support charities like Garden Organic - Cycle/walk more and drive less - Opt to work on projects like this, beautifully designed by Elaine Cresswell https://lnkd.in/g6Hx_UQq

Glasbren regenerates land and communities through food growing and nature education. Modern industrial farming is intensifying environmental damage and exacerbating climate change and food insecurity. Glasbren are showing that smaller scale, sustainable farms led by local communities offer a better way, addressing both local and global challenges while promoting mental and physical health. Glasbren recently expanded to a 134-acre farm, but they lack capacity to fully capitalise on this opportunity. Glasbren will use our funding to hire a Social Enterprise Coordinator to enhance fundraising, grow volunteers and develop partnerships, including with those already queuing up to partner. This will help them to scale their operations sustainably, fully utilise their new site, and increase their social and environmental impact. Learn more about charities and social enterprises on our website. #BackedByTheFore #smallcharities #socialchange #socialjustice #funding #socialenterprise #charities #inequality #grantmaking
