Let's hope that the EU Member countries see it fit to also contribute to the Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF), the new Pacific Resilence Development Financing vehicle endorsed by the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders last week in the Cook Islands.

Maritime activities are increasingly competing for space. Part of this competition comes from spatial constraints that result from safety provisions (for example, buffer zones). A new #EU #EMFAF study sheds light on the legal situation of the safety provisions of certain maritime activities, with a specific focus on the #NorthSea, which covers large parts of the EU's busiest waters. The study also presents some good examples of maritime activities from the North Sea, where safety requirements could be alleviated, in particular by reducing safety distances between different activities. 📢Two years ago, the European Commission launched a pilot project aimed at enhancing functional area approaches within the EU, in collaboration with The World Bank. This initiative provided targeted support to 12 functional areas (FAs) and short-term assistance to another 12, across 8 Member Countries. 📅Today, we had the privilege of attending the final conference „Functional Areas in the EU – Challenges, Opportunities, and Strengths." It was an invaluable opportunity to learn about the project's outcomes, tools, and conclusions.
