Alpine Convention’s Post

🏔️📄 Experts from the Alpine countries discussed nature restoration in the Alpine region in a recent webinar organised by the Bundesamt für Naturschutz on behalf of the Alpine Biodiversity Board. The eight states sharing the Alps 🏔️ (www.alpconv.org) are confronted with the need to put the unique but vulnerable Alpine nature on the pathway of recovery. Strategic and expert exchange can help in embarking this challenging task. 💻 An international online workshop on nature restoration in the Alpine region, organised by BfN on behalf of the Alpine Biodiversity Board of the Alpine Convention took place on 19th November. Around 50 participants, including governmental officials, researchers and practitioners, contributed to the intensive discussions with their vision of a more holistic restoration planning for the Alps. 🗣️ Experts from the Alpine countries exchanged on the actual steps to develop and implement restoration policies (at first place – National Restoration Plans). The panel discussion with Angelika Rubin from the European Commission, Rachel Kristensen, Co-Chair of BioDivRestore Nature Restoration Law Knowledge Hub, and Eliška Rolfová, Chair of the Working Group on Biodiversity of the Carpathian Convention, raised the transnational issues of the EU Nature Restoration Law implementation and possible pathways towards Alpine-wide perspective on restoration. 🎯 Conclusion: Exchange and working together can ensure that the efforts put into restoring Alpine nature are streamlined, create synergies and facilitate reaching the set restoration targets! 📄 We welcome and fully support the initiated Alpine-wide dialogue on restoration. The next step – publication of report – is expected in early 2025.   #Biodiversity #Restoration #Alps #NRL #Exchange #Nature Alpine Convention EUSALP European Commission Biodiversa+ United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) Carpathian Convention Interreg Alpine Space Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz, nukleare Sicherheit und Verbraucherschutz (BMUV) @Swiss Federal Office for Spatial Development @Amt für Umwelt Liechtenstein Bundesministerium für Klimaschutz, Umwelt, Energie, Mobilität, Innovation & Technologie Österreich Ministero dell'Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica Ministrstvo za naravne vire in prostor blue! advancing european projects @Ministère Transition Écologique, Cohésion des Territoires France Eurac Research CIPRA Eliška Rolfová Foto: Irina Kozban/BfN
