We thank dr. Federico Savini for an enlightening presentation as part of our SEICA Open Seminar Series. He first unpacked the so called ‘strategic thought’ in degrowth research. Then he argued why and how strategic spatial planning can be an important tool in degrowth as a wider socio-ecological transition. If you would like to read about his research, find the paper 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘤 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩: 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵, 𝘸𝘩𝘰, 𝘩𝘰𝘸 through this link: https://lnkd.in/eSekwW-c #degrowth #spatialplanning #presentation #research #transition

Honoured to become the new chair of the NWO (Dutch Research Council) Permanent Committee for Large-Scale Research Infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/ev6UMkvk About the PC-GWI: From telescopes and MRI scanners to large-scale digitized collections and biobanks, science and research cannot do without the right scientific infrastructure. Facilities contribute to solving major scientific issues and to strengthening the international position of the Netherlands as a country of knowledge. That is why it is important not to make investments ad hoc, but to develop a long-term strategy. This was the reason why the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science established the Permanent Committee on Large-scale Scientific Infrastructure (PC-GWI) in 2015. Since then, the committee has twice published a National Roadmap GWI setting priorities for investment in those large-scale research facilities and has funded 26 ten year projects that contribute to the realization of a sustainable ecosystem of large-scale scientific infrastructures. #researchfacilities #infrastructure #research #roadmap

We need to keep the conversation going about how universities across Canada help to drive and diversify our regional economies, particularly those in smaller urban centres. Federal investments in research, scholarship and creativity create quick wins for faculty and students, as well as local businesses, industry, and communities. #researchinvestment #postsecondaryeducation #Canadianresearch
Pleased to have shared the perspectives of the Alliance of Canadian Comprehensive Research Universities (ACCRU) last week for the House of Commons Standing Committee on Science and Research as a witness for the study on the distribution of federal government funding among Canada's post-secondary institutions. We have an opportunity to chart a new course that results in a research ecosystem that is more inclusive, innovative, and impactful for all of Canada's post-secondary institutions. https://lnkd.in/gbt5y9Hq

We are at the 2024 180N Annual Conference in Trondheim! 🤖🧠 🤖 Post Doc. Luigi Tommaso Luppino presented research related to the deep-learning derived input function (DLIF) method: a novel non-invasive imaging technique that quantifies biological processes in vivo. 🧠 The presented research is part of a larger collaboration between researchers from UiT- The Arctic University of Norway and Universitetssykehuset Nord-Norge. 🤖 The work aimed to not only improve the DLIF model's performance but also to address the shortcomings of the model, such as its sensitivity to input noise, the lack of real blood sampling available for ground truth, and strict input size requirements. 🧠 The results indicate that the model performs well, with the predicted input-functions closely following the ground truth. Further analysis indicate that the model is agnostic to time shifts and relaxes previous methods' requirements regarding input data size. I'm happy to announce that another of my papers, carried out with an excellent group of Brazilian researchers, has been published in the Journal of Regional Science Policy & Practice, one of the Regional Science Association International scientific journals. The paper uses structural impact analysis to examine the short-term effects of road transport infrastructure projects as part of the Latin American Integration Route (LAIR). This integration route has generated intense debate in Latin America and has even been featured in TheEconomist Newspaper Limited (Link: https://lnkd.in/dcZkJkGG) and ECLAC PUBLICATIONS (Link: https://lnkd.in/dwt76-D3). They are part of Latin American integration initiatives that can change the logic of the flow of goods and services in Latin America. In the video, I present some of the main results of the research. The principal innovation is the use of S-curve as a mechanism to model some of the uncertainties related to the implementation phase of the projects analyzed. It also integrates spatial locational quotients to analyze the spatial dispersion of policy effects. The paper provides an integrated framework for policymakers and planners interested in analyzing the potential impacts of transport infrastructure policies before they even take place. The full publication can be found here: https://lnkd.in/dy34UmkS The research project was funded by SUDECO - Superintendência do Desenvolvimento do Centro-Oeste.
