Alquity's business model is built on a core commitment: dedicating 10% of our fund fees to the Transforming Lives Foundation. Our Foundation aims to address social and economic challenges in the regions where we invest by providing grants to social enterprises. We are happy to announce that, in addition to the $25,400 donated in January, we are contributing another $12,700 to SHIVIA. These grants have empowered over 200 women to earn a sustainable income for the very first time. Among them is Anjali, who became deaf-mute following an accident as a teenager and faced immense difficulties in providing two daily meals and covering her son’s education and clothing expenses. With the support of Shivia’s toolkit and her very hard work, Anjali is now planning to expand her chicken farming enterprise. Thank you to our clients and investors - your continuous support makes stories like Anjali’s transformation possible! In India, countless generous individuals yearn to make a meaningful impact Yet, the path to finding a trustworthy NGO is fraught with challenges that breed skepticism among donors. Some of these challenges are: 👉 Transparency remains elusive as many NGOs fail to disclose how donations are utilized, leaving donors in the dark with indecipherable reports. 👉 Finding credible information is equally daunting, with donors lacking the time and resources for extensive research. 👉 Moreover, measuring impact is often obscured denying donors the reassurance of knowing their contributions make a difference. 👉 The opacity around administrative costs further clouds trust, leaving donors questioning where their money truly goes. A range of ideas and assumptions among Non-profits characterise Outcomes-Based Financing (OBF) in India. These majorly originate from the lack of access to sound knowledge and information. Our latest report, 𝐍𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬-𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚: 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐭-𝐟𝐨𝐫-𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬, spells out these misconceptions and recommends some way ahead for the ecosystem to pick up. This post is the first of six recommendations intended to inform all the actors working in the OBF space to work towards collectively fostering a more informed and confident non-profit sector. This collective effort will drive greater adoption and effective utilisation of OBF, ultimately enhancing the effectiveness of nonprofit initiatives. Concerted efforts to highlight successful OBF models and their positive impacts can encourage nonprofits to view OBF not just as a tool for accountability, but as a strategic approach to achieving their missions. Governance of Non-profit Organisations in India, a book that serves as a practical guide for the social sector, especially for non-profits. #NonProfits #NPO #Goverance
Darius M Forbes spent much of his life building strong businesses and institutions, and later, teaching others how to do the same. He believed in the power of individuals to achieve great things, regardless of their background or upbringing. He lived a life of service above self; done quietly and without much fuss, just because it was the right thing to do. For him, the business and social work were not separate buckets but blended naturally together in his daily life. Hence, Forbes Marshall has always believed in the philosophy of contributing and giving back to the community in which it operates. On the occasion of Darius’ 98th birth anniversary, 2nd October 2024, we are honoured to commemorate his life of purpose and achievement with the release of Governance of Non-profit Organisations in India, a book that serves as a practical guide for the social sector, especially for non-profits. This book stems from the collaboration between Centre for Advancement of Philanthropy (CAP) and Forbes Marshall, and is written by Noshir Dadrawala, Chief Executive of CAP. The book is being made available in an e-version for ease of access, and we hope it be a useful resource for non-profits, NGOs and the corporate sector. "If Asians matched the US in philanthropic spending by donating 2% of their GDP, an estimated US$702 billion could be raised—14 times the total net overseas development aid flowing into Asia and a quarter of the annual financing gap for the Asia-Pacific region to meet the SDGs". But what holds this potential back? Please check out the Doing Good Index 2024 report from the Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS).
Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS)’ new Doing Good Index report highlights the technology gaps that hamper nonprofits across Asia. While there are no significant shifts in scores for India, I took some encouragement from the high proportion of organisations in the sample who intend to try crowdfunding as part of their resource mobilisation strategies. Countries of greatest concern in the region are Myanmar and Bangladesh. Download the whole report: https://lnkd.in/dKmX3tEa #nonprofits #philanthropy #DoingGood

Many funders and stakeholders in the development sector operate from a top-down perspective, pushing for impact metrics that may not align with the unique contexts of individual Non-profits. This misalignment can lead to misunderstandings about what constitutes meaningful impact, resulting in a disconnect between funders' expectations and the realities nonprofits face. Our prior engagement with non-profits showed their reluctance to standardise their impact because of the complexity of the social sector. However, our latest report, 𝐍𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬-𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐎𝐁𝐅) 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚: 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐭-𝐟𝐨𝐫-𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬, shows that things are changing. Nonprofits now see that having clear impact standards is essential for participating in OBF. This post is the third of six recommendations intended to inform all the actors working in the OBF space to work towards collectively fostering a more informed and confident Non-profit sector. Everyone, from funders and nonprofits to government agencies and investors, has a role in creating a more nuanced and fair measure of impact that can help Non-profits enter the OBF market in India. Why do we feel that knot in our stomach when someone asks us to donate? Is it truly altruism, or is there something deeper at play? Guilt is a natural motivator. It makes us act because, as social beings, we’re wired to feel responsible for one another. When we see a cause that we resonate with, guilt can push us to give, and that’s why so many non-profits use emotional appeals- because they work! But while guilt-driven donations are valuable, they often lead to short-term or one-off giving, a quick fix to relieve that feeling. What if there’s something else you could offer? Something that is not monetary? Something that creates a more lasting impact? This is where skill-based volunteering comes in. In India, many non-profits struggle with limited resources, not just financially but also in terms of expertise and skills to further build their capacity. A marketing expert could help an NGO tell its story better, or a tech professional could help them make their operations more efficient. It is your expertise and skills that can help an organization scale its impact. And it’s not just about what you give (though that’s a huge part of it), it’s about what you gain too. By volunteering your skills, you not only make a tangible difference but also grow personally, build connections, and experience the obvious fulfillment and satisfaction that comes with it (not just our words, our community of skilled volunteers agrees!!) At WeDoGood, we connect skilled volunteers with non-profits that truly need their expertise. We believe that giving comes in various forms. So if you’re interested in knowing how you can help our partner social orgs amplify their impact, simply let us know your interest through the form link in the comments! #Impact #SkilledVolunteering #ProBono #Consulting #Volunteer
