Another new chapter as we continue to grow

Railroaded? California: Alstom to Provide Operations and Maintenance Services for Metrolink Alstom has been awarded a new contract by the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (Metrolink) to provide operations, servicing, and maintenance for the region’s rail system. The agreement, valued at 515 million USD for an initial five-year term, will run from January 2025 to June 2030. It includes an option to extend for an additional three years, potentially increasing the contract value to 860 million USD. https://lnkd.in/gzpPeQP9

Alstom’s Thunder Bay plant to be supported until 2030   In the first quarter 2025, the French company expects to receive an order for its Canadian site to overhaul and modernise 181 double-deck Bi-Level series VIII coaches for push-pull trains. The renewed rolling stock will be added to the fleet of GO Transit, an Alstom-operated passenger transport service in the province of Ontario.   The new framework agreement worth approximately €340 mln has been signed with Metrolinx, the transportation agency in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. According to Alstom, the contract will support 250 jobs until at least 2030.   For a long time, the future of the former Bombardier Transportation site in Thunder Bay was unclear. Last year, it reportedly employed 500 people, down from 1,300 in the 2010s. We’re delighted that #RFmember Alstom has signed a contract for 10 Aventra trains for the Elizabeth Line in London, with associated maintenance until 2046. This confirmed workload for Derby Litchurch Lane is a positive outcome for the future of the facility and associated workforce, and significantly for the rail supply chain whose resilience is crucial to supporting a thriving railway system. The UK needs an ambitious vision for the industry, underpinned by a long-term investment strategy and we continue to press for a smooth pipeline of rolling stock opportunities for all the OEMs to bid for, along with fairer opportunities for SME’s which focus on results and provide greater social value for the UK. Keir Starmer has said a deal struck by Hitachi which has given a lifeline to hundreds of jobs at a Co Durham train factory will relieve the anxiety of workers. Hitachi’s £500 million deal with rail operator FirstGroup will see its Newton Aycliffe plant build 14 new trains, with an option for an additional £460 million investment. Uncertainty had surrounded the future of the plant and the 700 people employed there due to declining orders. Hitachi’s UK and Ireland director said the contract was a “positive step forward” but the executive chairman of the Japanese company warned that if the northern leg of HS2 is not revived by Labour, jobs at the factory could be in jeopardy. North East Mayor Kim McGuinness and local authority leaders at the North East Combined Authority are set to approve a landmark skills investment, which will create a new generation of skilled local workers in electric vehicle (EV) and battery technology. This major development underscores our region's commitment to nurturing talent and driving innovation. MADE NE (Manufacturing, Automation, Digitalisation, Electrification North East), led by Nissan with partners on behalf of the automotive sector, will create world-leading training facilities over two sites within the International Advanced Manufacturing Strategic Site (IAMSS) in Sunderland. The £14.6 million project, which a report to the Mayor and Cabinet recommends receives support worth £9.7 million from the Combined Authority, will provide open access facilities to industry for skills training in the region's advanced manufacturing sector, with a particular focus on EV and battery manufacturing.
