🌐 Excited to Present at ASIC Conference Next Week 📊 Next week, I am looking forward to participating in the ASIC conference where I will be presenting on the topic "Mobile low-cost sensor use for route assessment in Aarhus (DK)" as part of the DivAirCityH2020 EU funded project GA number 101003799. The presentation aims to explain how we developed and calibrated a novel low-cost sensor solution with high temporal resolution, and how we did the data analysis to explore alternative travel routes through a city. I find the topic particularly interesting, since, thanks to ITK Aarhus Kommune, the routes have been designed by the citizens based on their preferences and daily life rather than by air pollution scientists, such as myself. This greatly improves the relevance of the study. This topic is particularly relevant to air quality professionals who are keen on using mobile air pollution sensors for urban air quality. I am honored to have the opportunity to share insights from the DivAirCity-project and contribute to the discourse on innovative approaches to air quality assessment. In this paper, the authors investigate the energy efficiency of a multi-user downlink #non-#orthogonal #multiple #access (#NOMA) system aided by an ambient backscatter device that modulates its own information by reflecting the incident signal coming from the NOMA transmitter. Because of the multiplicative operation at the ambient backscatter device when reflecting the transmitter’s signal, the achievable sum rate of the system is not known. Hence, they first derive the information-theoretic achievable rate region for a discrete memoryless channel and, subsequently, for Gaussian channels. The authors then propose a joint optimization framework for maximizing the system energy efficiency as the tradeoff and ratio between the overall sum rate and the power consumption, under user minimum rate constraints. ---- Hajar EL HASSANI, Anne Savard, E. #Perovskite solar cells are good candidates for space applications, but the employed material degrades under UV radiation. The simple idea could be "let's just use a filter". However, this makes you lose a large amount of energy from the AM0.  Here is an interesting example of how light-management techniques can enhance the efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). When properly designed, these structures could increase efficiency and act as UV barriers, which is paramount for protecting the perovskite layer against degradation. Manuel João Mendes and colleagues developed a down-converting layer that protects the solar cell from UV by downshifting its energy to lower wavelengths. Combining light trapping with luminescent downshifting layers they managed to increase the photocurrent also for oblique incident angles. This is an interesting paper to read. Photonic protection from high-energy photons can contribute to the market deployment of perovskite solar cell technology and may become crucial for space applications under AM0 illumination. https://lnkd.in/enqUYGHJ #perovskites #solarpv #solarcells #photovoltaics #research #solarenergy

A new work appeared on Sb rich n-type sb2se3 absorber layer from Universitat de Barcelona on solar cell. Advocating Sb2Se3 as n-type again . Note that there is a difference of opinion about conductivity in the material. Would be more interesting to see if any of Sb2Se3 solar cell crosses 7% efficiency mark ! Assessing the stability of perovskite solar cells in outdoor environments is more challenging than it seems. Preparing the cells for real-world conditions requires both creativity and precision, making the process time-consuming and often tedious. However, through active collaboration with students Nil Monrós Oliveras, Zhenchuan Tian we can transform the task into a more efficient and enjoyable experience, enhancing time management, improving productivity, and reducing errors along the way. I’m thrilled to share the publication of the dataset paper titled “A Norwegian Positive Energy Neighbourhood Dataset of Electrical Measurements and Interviews on Energy Practices (NorPEN).” The dataset is the final result of a three-year interdisciplinary and intersectoral collaboration within MSCA GECKO Innovation and Training Network, in which my brilliant colleague Apostolos Vavouris and I worked together on two major studies: (I) Smart energy technologies for the collective: Time-shifting, demand reduction and household practices in a Positive Energy Neighbourhood in Norway (https://lnkd.in/dAewW4EW) (II) A complex mixed-methods data-driven energy-centric evaluation of net-positive households (https://lnkd.in/d65jG-CW) The dataset offers the scientific community a comprehensive set of quantitative and qualitative data, including: (i) the aggregate loads of six households, (ii) the estimated energy production based on the installed solar panel capacity, (iii) the labelling of individual activities, (iv) solar irradiance and weather data, (v) time of use of electric appliance surveys, and (vi) in-depth semi-structured interviews on household energy practices. Thus, the dataset facilitates multi-disciplinary research on the sociotechnical aspects of PENs and net-positive buildings for their design and implementation, helping to answer the “what”, “why”, and “how” of energy prosumption. In the paper entitled "Co-Optimization of Behind-the-Meter and Front-of-Meter Value Streams in Community Batteries", the authors (Carmen Bas Domenech, Antonella Maria De Corato, Pierluigi Mancarella) from University of Melbourne propose a novel techno-economic operational framework that allows systematic assessment of the different options and introduce a two-meter architecture that co-optimizes both behind-the-meter and front-of-meter benefits. The paper was published in the Special Section on Battery Energy Storage Systems for Net-zero Power Systems and Market in Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy vol. 12 issue 2. The exact mechanism behind sonoluminescence is still unknown, but there are several mysteries associated with it, including: Light emission mechanism: The exact mechanism by which light is emitted is unknown. Mass flux stability: The mechanism for the anomalous stability of mass flux is unknown. Bubble disappearance: The reason why the bubble disappears at a critical acoustic pressure is unknown. Oscillations: The reason for the appearance of chaotic and quasiperiodic oscillations in the flash is unknown.
