As the cleantech industry continues to tackle adoption challenges, the Canadian government is stepping up with resources to support founders on their journey. One standout resource is Sustainable Development Technology Canada - Technologies du Développement Durable Canada (SDTC), which has been driving climate and environmental tech innovation since 2001. 🌎 With a recent $750 million boost, SDTC is more equipped than ever to fund projects with substantial environmental impact—focusing on climate change mitigation, clean air, water, and soil. Whether you're an early-stage startup or a scale-up, SDTC has programs to support your growth, including the Seed Fund, offering grants up to $100,000 for early stage companies. 🌱 For cleantech entrepreneurs, now is the time to leverage these resources and make a lasting impact! 🔗 Read the full blog here: https://hubs.ly/Q02JsdSk0 #Cleantech #Innovation #Sustainability

GreenTech Investing is Hotting Up! There was further proof in 2023 – if it were needed – that the world is facing a climate emergency that requires urgent, coordinated action. Record temperatures, deforestation, rapid biodiversity loss – the message from our planetary systems was clear: act now, before it’s too late. And while there is no single solution to these interconnected challenges, it’s become clear that breakthrough technologies, led by early-stage entrepreneurs who are as committed to environmental and social impact as they are to generating a profit, can help us hold back or adapt to the worst effects of climate change and deliver on the promises of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). But only if those who can enable their success rise-up to support them. Top of this list are providers of the growth capital that would allow these impact entrepreneurs to thrive, but which is currently in critically short supply. Thankfully, one encouraging sign that the investment community is stepping up is the launch of the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) Business Growth and Social Impact Investment Fund which aims to support ambitious and growth focused businesses across the Greenech and Low Carbon Sectors based in the CPCA region, including Peterborough, Fenland, Huntingdonshire, East Cambridgeshire, South Cambridgeshire, and Cambridge. The fund will offer a range of commercial finance options including growth loans from £100k - £500k and equity investments up to £500k managed by The FSE Group. In addition there are grants from £10k to £25k and small loans up to £75k available to support third sector businesses and organisations, managed by Allia. And so, we invite purpose-driven entrepreneurs, sustainability-focused investors and corporate partners to join us on this journey to unlock a Green Technology revolution. To find out more join us at the launch event this Thursday 19th September in Peterborough using the link in the comments below. Funding for #climatetech startups in #Africa from the private sector is growing, with businesses raising more than $3.4 billion since 2019. But there’s still a long way to go, with the continent requiring $277 billion annually to meet its climate goals for 2030... Still, the investment numbers for the climate tech sector — which includes businesses in #renewableenergy, carbon removal, land restoration and water and waste management — are compelling. Interesting insights to the Nordic cleantech investment landscape available from this Tesi et al. study which was published today 👍🏽
Our joint-Nordic cleantech study is out! Here are some picks and thoughts, besides the ones in the carousel below: 📌 The some 1,600 cleantech companies identified in the study employ around 32,000 globally and in the Nordic. 📌 Last year, 24 startups received seed-stage funding compared to 59 in 2022 📌 The share of Nordic investors in cleantech financing dropped to less than 10% in 2021(a previous study by Cleantech Scandinavia) It's time to amplify our efforts and attract more funding! Thank you Ilmastorahasto - The Finnish Climate Fund, Industrifonden, Almi Invest, Danmarks Eksport- og Investeringsfond, Investinor, and Nysnø Klimainvesteringer for your cooperation. Canada’s #cleantech sector is striving to contribute to a greener future, but many companies must first navigate challenging times to secure early funding. Many cleantech ventures struggle to acquire the capital needed to transform their innovative, first-of-a-kind ideas into commercially viable products or services. These technologies are often not yet proven at scale, making them too advanced for venture capital but not mature enough to attract larger growth equity or infrastructure funding Despite the hurdles, Canada’s cleantech ecosystem is gaining international recognition. We ranked 2nd in the 2024 Global Cleantech Innovation Index, with 13 Canadian companies listed among the world’s top 100 clean-tech innovators! https://lnkd.in/giSGzNNn
