Covering your bareness? Nobody likes naked soil, and weeds will help you cover your lawn  when your grass doesnt, no fig leaves needed. Weeds are opprtunistic survivalists, finding their way quickly onto bare and thin lawns. Two natural occurances can bring you weeds; Lawns thinning seasonally with the heat of summer, and the pre-emergent from spring are expiring to allow seeding. An unnatural reason to have weeds is often self inflicted with the best of intentions when homeowners scalps the soil at the edge with power trimmers.  Weeds will find bare soil. Turn the trimmer so the line is up/down for a clean edge, not sideways to cut across the soil surface. Presidio Trust: Hair Mat Trials in Grasslands Restoration Matter of Trust is proud to be partnered with the Presidio Trust for the Hair Mulch Trials in this Grassland Restoration Project The use of mulching materials for restoration can be important for increasing success of seeding and transplanting, but retaining soil moisture, protecting seeds, and providing additional nutrients. The opportunity to try a new mulch material- hair mats – is exciting for Presidio grassland restoration. A rigorous experiment is necessary for establishing the effectiveness of the new mulching material. The main goal is test if the hair mat material increases the successful establishment of perennial grasses in the bare soil created by construction activities. Both seeding and transplanting of grasses will be tested.
