BYD has initiated a recall of 6,843 Fang Cheng Bao (FCB) Bao 5 plug-in hybrid off-road SUVs in China, manufactured between October 16, 2023, and February 1, 2024. The recall addresses loose bolts in the integrated dual-motor controller, which may cause electrical connector failures, leading to smoke or fire. This marks the first major safety issue for the Bao 5, launched in October 2023, with cumulative sales of 54,625 units as of December 2024. The defect stems from improperly tightened bolts in the dual-motor controller, a critical component of BYD’s DMO hybrid powertrain. During operation, vibration can loosen these bolts, compromising electrical connections. Shenzhen Fang Cheng Bao New Energy Automobile will replace affected controllers free of charge, notifying owners via direct communication channels. The Bao 5 features a 1.5L turbocharged engine paired with dual electric motors, delivering 677 hp and 760 Nm torque. Its 31.8 kWh LFP battery and 85-liter fuel tank enable a 1,200 km CLTC range. Priced from ¥239,800 ($32,750), the SUV targets premium off-road markets and is slated for global release as the Denza B5, following recent sightings in Australia. Despite robust sales, the recall underscores challenges in BYD’s rapid scaling. The Bao 5’s overseas expansion plans now face heightened scrutiny, particularly in markets like Europe, where EV safety regulations are stringent. Competitors such as Toyota’s Land Cruiser PHEV may capitalize on this setback. BYD’s proactive recall reflects its commitment to safety but highlights vulnerabilities in mass-producing complex hybrid systems. The incident may temporarily affect consumer trust as the brand competes globally. Future strategies will likely emphasize enhanced quality control and modular manufacturing, critical as BYD targets 20% international sales by 2026. https://lnkd.in/d_pn82df #automotiveindustry #electricvehicles #batteries #china #europe Tesla MG Motor Europe BYD

The lack of small, affordable BEVs is hampering Europe’s EV adoption. 🚗 The region typically favours smaller segment vehicles in the ICE market. However, EV adoption among the smaller segments has been weak, with the B segment’s penetration rate a fifth of the D segments. 📉 With Europe’s YTD EV sales growth now negative, and the penetration rate of many of the region’s major markets decreasing relative to 2023, the poor EV adoption among the smaller segments due to a lack of competitively priced models within the segments is a significant factor. 💰 However, there is an upcoming wave of small segment BEVs scheduled to enter production in Europe over the next two years. Several OEMs are promising to release these models for under EUR25,000; such as the Fiat Panda, Skoda Epiq, and VW ID.2. 🏭 The all-electric Mini will re-enter production in Europe in 2026 once the Mini plant in Oxford has undergone a GBP600 million investment to prepare the site for all-electric production from 2030 onwards. We discuss these upcoming small segment BEVs, as well as the latest on EU tariffs for Chinese BEVs, and BEV production delays in North America in our recently released EV Production Quarterly Outlook Q3 2024 highlights presentation, which you can request here: https://bit.ly/3Nf3QmW #EV #battery #energy #EVmarket Rho Motion

How popular are Chinese #EV s? 💡 Chinese EVs already make up 60 percent of worldwide sales, according to International Energy Agency. IEA Global EV Outlook 2024 https://lnkd.in/drXCXNmj In China electric car sales are to grow by almost 25% in 2024 compared to last year, reaching around 10 million. Several western brands now manufacture their electric cars also in China (like VW, MB, BMW, Tesla). China exported over 1,2 million EV cars in 2023. In 2022, China produced around 1.5 million electric cars. Tesla Model Y, became the best-selling car in Europe in 2023. 254,822 units of the model were sold. It’s very clear that development has slowed down in the #Eurozone and in China development has been booming. Chinese brands and Chinese-made electric cars are taking over the market. New innovations and development work in the Eurozone is very important. Oy Hollmén & Co has a unique and environmentally friendly #laserwelding technology, with which aluminiumin is shaped into its most efficient form to function for cooling as efficiently as possible but also works actively with new innovations that form an important part of the company's future and contributes to new opportunities for Eurozone companies. 🍀 #prototyping #powerelectronics #traction #inverter #igbt #mosfetn #sic #powermodule #ccu #obc #housings #telecommunicationengineering #machining #cncmachine #painting #assembly #fip #innovation #heatsink #coldplate #powermodule #addedvalue #leadinginnovation #electrification #coolingforpowerelectronics #prototypes #volumeproduction #electricity #emobility #emarine #etrain #electronicmotorhousing #powermodules #batterycoolers #converters #heatpipeassembly #heatsinks #desingflexibility #fast #reliable #multiplealloy

Range extended electric vehicles are driving the hybrid market in China 🇨🇳 China is underpinning global EV market growth as US and European markets slow. Within China, plug-in hybrid vehicles are up 82% for the first eight months of the year, compared to only 13% for BEVs, driven by falling EV prices, government incentives and a growing subset of PHEVs known as range-extended EVs (REEV). 🚙 REEVs are battery-dominant hybrids containing small engines that serve to top-up the battery between recharges, rather than directly power the motor or wheels. 🔋 REEV battery sizes in China are on average 39kWh, comparable to that of a BEV (57kWh), and nearly twice that of a conventional PHEV (20kWh). 🌏So far REEV sales are mostly regionally isolated to China, with outside growth limited by model availability. However, sentiments towards hybrids have been shifting in recent months, with incumbents including Ford, GM, VW and Volvo now planning to keep the technology around for longer. 📈 BEVs will still remain the largest demand market for lithium-ion batteries and Benchmark Mineral Intelligence expects demand from the sector to rise to 741GWh in 2024, representing 87% of EV demand, according to its Q3 2024 Lithium-ion Batteries Forecast - https://lnkd.in/err3Huac #electricvehicles #China #Hybrid #PHEV #BEV

This is precisely why Kilows is building ESS integrated XFC charging technology. Looking back at this moment in time from 2030, and 2035, people will be saying “… EV adoption is yet another example of technology S-curves…” The transition to EV will accelerate (S-curve steepens) as a few things cause tipping points in more EV markets: 1) unsubsidized price of EV drops below ICE (already true in China); 2) EV range hits 1,000km (5-600 mi) some EVs are capable of now; 3) EVs have XFC charging capable battery packs (StoreDot silicon-dominant as an example); 4) XFC public charging is reliable and ubiquitous (what we at Kilows are building).
While some Chinese car makers such as BYD and GEELY are releasing more hybrid models, it's unlikely to be a real shift back from full electric vehicles (EVs). Here's why: Strong #EV Momentum: China is the world's largest EV market, with strong government support and a rapidly developing charging infrastructure. This momentum is expected to continue. Hybrids as a Stepping Stone: Hybrids offer a bridge for consumers hesitant about fully electric cars due to range anxiety or charging concerns. Technology such as StoreDot #xfc can ease the transition and expand the market. Technological Advancements: Chinese companies are making significant strides in battery technology and extending the range of EVs, addressing some of the key concerns around them. Global Expansion: For markets with less developed charging infrastructure, hybrids offer a more viable option for Chinese car makers to gain a foothold. However, there are some factors contributing to the increased focus on hybrids: Slower EV Sales Growth: While still strong, the growth rate of EV sales in China has slowed down in 2023-4 compared to previous years. Increased Competition: The EV market is becoming increasingly competitive, with both domestic and international players vying for market share. Policy Adjustments: Some recent policy changes have reduced subsidies for EVs, making hybrids relatively more attractive. In conclusion: Chinese car makers are strategically expanding their offerings to include more hybrid models, but this is more likely a tactical adjustment to address current market conditions and consumer preferences rather than a complete reversal of the long-term trend towards electrification. It's important to remember that the automotive industry is dynamic, and the balance between EVs and hybrids may continue to evolve. However, the overall direction in China, and globally, remains towards increasing electrification.

2moIt’s disappointing to see how 12k Energy, continues to dismiss my valid concerns. Despite multiple assurances from Prof that payment would be resolved—including promises for alternative methods like Instant Money or Mukuru transfer—nothing has been done. This ongoing disregard for honoring commitments not only reflects a lack of professionalism but also speaks volumes about how the company values the people it works with. I hope 12k Energy takes immediate action to resolve this, as it’s unacceptable to leave such issues unresolved for this long
