"HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED WITH CLINICAL RESEARCH IN DERMATOLOGY?" This is very common question that I am asked by several colleagues. Getting involved with any endeavor always involves more work than anticipated if you want to do things the right way, and if you are committed to doing that, then proceed with finding out more. Clinical research requires investment of time and money up front as it is vastly different from clinical practice and requires decication to training and the designation of a qualified staff that are separate from the staff that are involved with clinical practice. It is not "easy money" 💰, which many think it is. However, if done correctly, is very rewarding and can be a good income source that also offers significant professional rewards and satisfaction. As the photo shows, you do need to realize that you are opening your doors to direct monitoring of your charts and activities by CROs (Clinical Research Organization) and potentially the FDA. The highlight at EADV today was our key symposium for healthcare professionals focused on itch: ‘Shifting the paradigm in the management of atopic dermatitis and prurigo nodularis: Expert insights into the unmet need for itch control.’ Despite great scientific advances in recent years, there are still many people living today with medical conditions which have a heavy burden on their daily quality of life - one of which is chronic itch. Despite an estimation that 22% of the population will experience chronic itch in their lifetime, medical understanding of itch and its impact on patients is an area that needs further education. Seeing such rich scientific discussion during the symposium today was an important step forward.
