The ACR cell block explained! An agitator is housed within each cell of the reactor cell block to actively mix the reaction mixture. Which agitator is placed within the cell, however, is up to you and your process requirements. There are five types of agitators available: ✅ 10% volume ✅ Catalyst baskets ✅ 30% volume ✅ 50% volume ✅ 70% volume Through a simple change of agitator, the working volume of the reactor can be adjusted to 30mL and 90mL. For ultimate flexibility and versatility, the reactor cell block also has numerous inlet and outlet ports, heat transfer capabilities, a T-Type thermocouple connector and much more. What is plug flow in flow chemistry? Plug flow is an important characteristic of flow reactors, whereby any two molecules entering the reactor at time zero, exit at a similar time. This means that a plug flow reactor provides an effective means of controlling reaction time while optimising the separation of reactants and products. Good plug flow is essential for good performance 😎 By using a clear Coflore ATR tube containing a standard ATR agitator, in the video below you can see how feeds are pulsed through the system at regular intervals, showing a clear plug flow visualisation. Two feeds were connected to the inlet of the ATR tube, with a switch valve allowing the operator to switch from feed A to feed B and vice versa.
