I recently read an interesting Harvard Business Review article on leading through uncertain times. It emphasizes the importance of reflecting on core values and understanding where your organization stands, especially during periods of change. These moments offer a chance to challenge assumptions and explore new possibilities. A great reminder for us all to stay grounded in what remains constant and remain true to your purpose, essential for guiding your team with clarity and resilience. https://lnkd.in/g2wRrbgf #LeadershipMindset

Liminal experiences, described by Harvard Business Review as “a prolonged separation from normal ways of being and doing,” could be considered a hallmark of personal and professional life in the 2020s. But uncertainty does not necessarily mean instability. “It’s easy to become distracted by the challenging economic, social, and geopolitical context in which organizations currently operate,” says HBR. Instead, leaders who commit to two key actions – asking the big questions and focusing on the fundamentals – can help their teams build strength and resilience. More ➡ https://lnkd.in/gy_eGriW

I’ve been working with my business owner clients on their 2025 budgets – and almost all of them just laugh at me. It’s impossible to predict the future! What will the economy do? What will happen with the election? Many have seen projects put on hold… How can you plan? I agree it’s hard. But this is when leadership is the most important! 🤔 What do you value? This shouldn’t waiver… 🤔 Where do we stand? Be honest. Are you on a solid financial foundation… 🤔 How do we move forward? Consider various scenarios. As outlined in the HBR article titled How to Lead When the Future Feels Unpredictable by Laura Empson and Jennifer Howard-Grenville, as leaders we to focus on the fundamentals with three actions… 1. Step back and take stock. Your core purpose is to deliver value to your clients. Are you doing all that you can? What could you do differently now? 2. Strengthen the ties that bind. Support your people – recognizing their different experiences and expertise. Collaborate and work together on projects such as the one suggested above. 3. Hold fast and stay true. Two sailing references for navigating storms -- Hold on as this too will pass and stay the course keeping true to your values. When the storm ends and the future seems more stable, you will be a stronger company ready to take on all challenges. How are you navigating through this period? Do you agree with these steps? 3 Questions to Guide Your Leadership in Uncertain Times... In a world full of instability and political turbulence, feeling unsettled or anxious has become the norm. As a result, many of us are having “liminal experiences,” which involve a prolonged separation from normal ways of being and doing. As a leader, you can use these three questions to anchor yourself and your team in uncertain, liminal times. What do you value? Use this moment to revisit your core values. The events around us highlight what truly matters. Reflect on what triggers strong emotions in you—it’s often a signal of your deeper beliefs. Knowing your values will ground you in times of flux. Where do we stand? Reassess your organization’s purpose and principles. This isn’t mere introspection; it’s crucial for clarifying your direction. Your team looks to you for stability, and understanding where you and your organization stand will help you unite your team. How can we move ahead? Liminal periods can lead to feelings of cynicism or helplessness, but they’re also opportunities for growth. Avoid the urge to retreat. Instead, view this as a time to innovate and discard outdated assumptions.

With the US presidential election results in, we're stepping into a time of change with no clear playbook. I came across some valuable insights in this HBR article on how to navigate these unprecedented shifts and manage uncertainty. The main takeaway I learnt is to focus on the fundamentals. 1️⃣ Step back & take stock 2️⃣ Strengthen connections 3️⃣ Stay grounded & true to your values One powerful insight I came across: '...liminal experiences can be invitations to reflect, reach out, and reorient — not simply to feel lost at sea.' A timely reminder that moments of transition offer opportunities for growth and direction, rather than just uncertainty. #changemanagement #leadership #adaptability

In today’s world, where change is constant, we find ourselves in what Harvard Business Review calls “liminal times”—moments of uncertainty when familiar paths are breaking, but new ones have yet to fully form. These times offer a unique opportunity to lean into core values, strengthen partnerships, and redefine strategies for the challenges of tomorrow. 1️⃣ Stay True to Purpose. 2️⃣ Strengthen Connections. 3️⃣ Embrace Adaptability. As we navigate these uncertainties, we’re reminded of a powerful truth: beyond every challenge, there lies the potential for profound transformation. https://lnkd.in/eSxtAs-3

How to Lead When the Future Feels Unpredictable. I've been sharing this advice with clients lately: Focus on YOUR organization's vision, mission, and values that help you create your organization's culture. THAT focus is what everyone needs to align to while working with you. That unifying focus will enable you to create or reaffirm a team - who may well have very different political, socio-economic, etc views. However, when they're working with you to fulfill YOUR organization's mission, help them understand and align with your vision & values. They can work together with unified focus. Check out what HBR.org has to say about this...
