Only 23% of all cereals (corn, wheat) grown in the EU are for direct human consumption 🌽 Most of it is fed to animals. It makes zero sense that we are using arable land to grow crops we first feed to animals. If we stop doing this, we could free up lots of land for nature restoration (and use some of it for human food). It wouldn't even mean we all need to be vegetarian: we could still feed pigs and chickens with food scraps and by-products from food processing. There is a lot of discussion about how much meat is sustainable but there is one thing that most people agree on: growing corn to feed pigs, cows, and chickens is a terrible waste of land. ---- 🎤 This is a video from a pub quiz I organized at a company. ‘B’ for bloomin’ brilliant bangers, burgers and breasts! 💪 We believe everyone should know the impact their food choices have on our planet to make informed decisions, so we put ourselves to the test 🤓We worked with My Emissions to assess the life-cycle carbon emissions from farming, processing, packaging, and transportation of three of our most popular products and compared them to the average animal-based alternative. The results were staggering… We achieved a B rating across all three products (🎉), emitting, on average, 63%* less harmful carbon than the average meat counterpart 🤯There’s a reason why animal products don’t promote their environmental impact 👀🏭 But we’re not stopping there! While our products are significantly better for the planet than meat, we will continue working to reduce our impact on our shared home. With the decline in wild bee populations, farmers increasingly rely on commercially managed honeybees transported across states. 🚜🌾 In our latest blog post, we explore the life of a honeybee trucker, the logistics of bee transportation, and its significant impact on agriculture. Here's a glimpse into the essential role of honeybee transportation: Essential Pollinators: Honeybees are crucial for pollinating crops like almonds, apples, berries, and melons. As crop demand increases, so does the need for efficient pollination. Semi-truck transportation allows beekeepers to provide services across regions, following the blooming cycles of various crops. 🍎🍓🍈 Preparing Bees for Transport: Before transport, beekeepers inspect, feed, and treat their bees to ensure they are healthy and ready for the journey. Loading hives typically happens at night when bees are less active, reducing stress. A truck can transport over 22 million bees! 🌙🚚 Journey of a Honeybee Trucker: Drivers meticulously plan routes to avoid traffic and extreme weather, traveling during cooler parts of the day to prevent overheating.
